I had fun this morning painting these 3D print-outs from Printable Terrain.  This company produces computer files for printing these buildings on a 3D printer.

Very nice.  Does this mean you own a 3D printer?  And, if it does, do you just use for hobby stuff and, if so, how do you justify the cost?  Or have the printers come down in price?  The whole idea of 3D printing is interesting.  I'm just wondering where it is on the cost justification continuum?

No, I don't own a printer myself.  My mate does.

He believes 3D printers will be common household items in a few years, just as 2D paper printers are now.  He also says the 3D printer at this stage is a bit like the dot-matrix printer was, and over the next few years 3D printers will get better and cheaper.

One thing he did say is that if a club pitched in and bought a 3D printer jointly, it could be much more cost-effective in the end than pitching in and buying a bunch of one-off scenery items.
