Best scale for 20mm figs?
« on: March 07, 2015, 04:14:09 PM »
What is the best model rail building scale and track scale to go with 20mm minis? Preferably in American scale if its different from the rest of the world.

Probably OO scale (not O!) running on HO track. HO is 1/87 and is noticeably too small for 20mm in most cases, but OO is 1/76 and is quite close to 1/72/20mm.

OO scale is far more British than American, but you should be able to get stuff readily enough?

Indeed. If you can get your hands on OO, it's the best.

There are a LOT of interesting plastic OO rolling-stock kits out there, that you can build up and paint. I picked up quite a few at a local scale-rail show a few years back.
Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

OO is ideal for rolling stock.

However,  for railway model buildings, I'd take a fig with you and look at some of the HO kits that are out there.  If the doors are big enough, or if you don't mind a bit of compression, you'd be surprised at what looks right even if it's a bit smaller in scale.  Industrial buildings are especially good for this.

You'll also find alot more and more affordable HO building kits in the USA as it's by far the most common scale here.
