Quickie Dino Conversion
« on: 26 September 2008, 05:25:13 PM »
Hey all,

I thought I'd share a quick little project that I threw together a bit back. Nothing too amazing, but thought I'd share a conversion and repaint I did on a cheap plastic dino. You can find it at my blog "I See Lead People (http://leadpeople.blogspot.com/2008/09/dino-repaint.html).Please feel free to visit and let me know what you think.

Looks good.
I do like the blue.  :)
I don't know whether to be a good example or a horrible warning.

Thanks!

The brown was cool on its own, but the dino looked a little...um...less than real. I am a believer in the colorful dinosaur theory. I see no reason why our ancient saurian ancestors had to be fashion challenged.

It's a good idea to get some cheap dinos for this kind of enterprise. It's always amazing, how a little paint here and there makes even these models look like something.

I wholly agree with giving the dinos a little color. Did you actually highlight the blue? Maybe the photo doesn't show it but it looks very - two dimensional. Maybe a lighter blue would bring even more life into that part.

I like the idea of hiding the badly cast claws behind some foilage. Must remember that...

I did not highlight it. Perhaps I should. It really was a rush job and I haven't gone back to it since cobbling it together for that one session. I have others in the works too and will have to remember a bit of highlight, though they have never been my strong suit.

Jurrasic Fight Club is a great show a wonderfully clever method to trick people into learning something - sucker them in with a monster fight and then give them some nice science to to go with it. As for dinos as a hobby, they hav the nice benefit of being something you can collect and paint just for the love of dinos.

Did you undercoat that before painting over it?
