It's a Reaper piece, Dirk.

Brilliant, the atmosheric shots really do it justice.

Well, I have about 20 more apes, cavemen, and neanderthals to paint, plus a dozen or so assorted creatures... So give me a few more weeks!
Then I need to pin down the rules, although I've got the gist of them down already - it's a kind of mash-up of Captain Carey's Blunder and Upsheet Creek...
End June I reckon, for a playtest...  :)

Should you ever consider to sell it (whichever part of that project), feel free to contact me...  :D

Unlikely, but I'll bear it in mind  :)

Ah, I cannot talk to much about the wildlife because I don't want to spoil the surprise for players  :D
Let's just say that the main hostile factions to the venturing cave-folk will be hominids. It's a wargame after all...
However random acts of violence from four-legged predators may be expected en route...

Dam impressive sir, well done all around functional board.  It has been great watching your design and building process.

<stands and applauds>

A work of art, sir, and an inspiration.

I'm hoping to make my first terrain boards this summer (I may even attempt a gentle slope or two), and have a couple of questions about the flora, if I may?

Did you use all Woodland Scenic turf scatter for your basic greenery? Any particular mix, or just what "looked right" from a variety of tubs? Where did you get the trees? Did you use them "as is" or improve them in any way?

I hope I didn't miss the answers in the thread already! Thanks.

Could do with a few Zulus, but still an outstanding bit of landscape  :-*

Thanks Mister Rab.

Yes, almost all the greenery (except the grass tufts) is Woodland Scenics stuff.

The grass is mainly a mix of WS 'Burnt Grass' fine turf and coarse turf in the same hue, with a smattering of 'Light Green' coarse turf thrown in.
There is also a little bright lime green flock in there. Don't know the manufacturer... Maybe Javis or Peco? It's almost fluorescent green. But a few particles in the mix adds the sense of new shoots coming through... I tend to add a bit more of this after the main grass has been applied, in a few patches here and there.
There's also a little medium green static grass mixed, just to add a bit of variety to the texture.

The small bushy / scrubby bits are WS 'bushes' or 'underbrush' (small bits of clump foliage) again in the burnt grass and light green colours (WS are ruthlessley efficient at keeping their dyes identical right across their ranges of products).

The bigger bushes are bits of WS 'light green' 'fine leaf foliage' clusters - kind of very fine twiggy bits with flock already attached. You can use these to glue to tree armatures, or you can just pull off into little bits and use as bushes, glued in place (spike a hole, try a bit of foliage for size, dab of superglue on the 'stalk', pop it in the hole and Bob's your uncle).

The whole lot, I should say, is glued in place with PVA, excess flock mix shaken off, then given a generous dousing with WS 'scenic cement' (a very thinned, matt finish PVA) to fix everything in place. An essential step.

I should also say, before applying the flock, I pepper around assorted grass tufts and clumps of underbrush. Then build up the flock around these.

The trees themselves are WS 'clump foliage' in light green, attached with superglue to WS plastic tree armatures, and then liberally sprayed with scenic cement. If you look at page 7 of one of my previosu terrain projects (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=12619.90) you can see how I made these trees. They simply spike into the foam, meaning you can move them around as and when you need to...

Hope that helps.
