Question about finding walls with railings
« on: March 16, 2015, 07:15:41 PM »
As the time approaches where I can foresee myself having some figures suitable for VSF gaming actually painted, my mind is turning towards getting some suitable terrain around which they can do glorious battle (rather than slugging it out over ground that looks like the grimdark of the 41st Millennium, or a model village with approximately half-scale houses).

My ultimate intent is to get enough terrain for a section of a British town/city, but in the interests of starting small I'm going to get some park-type terrain first (which will ultimately form a corner of my town).  Sarissa Precision & TTCombat have some good bits (market stands, a fountain, benches, a bandstand & public convenience) which will fit the bill nicely in terms of quick & easy terrain to provide a good level of cover & be VSF-appropriate.

In order to delineate the park, I'd like a wall with nice wrought iron railings atop it.  A considerable amount of time googling has lead me to Stronghold Terrain (http://stronghold-terrain.de/index.php/modern/walls-streets/fence-set-rubble-wall.html), which is near-enough what I'm after.  However, before getting this fencing, I thought I'd ask if anyone else knew of something similar out there that I could use?

I made mine from plasticard stonework and Peco O guage railway fencing. However those Stronghold ones look nice and the price seems reasonable, particularly given the time saved.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Fenris do some very nice Victorian fencing.

They do, although the fancy ones are very fragile.

That is indeed some nice railing by Fenris, thank-you for the pointer.  It doesn't work out much cheaper by the time you add the walls, railings & columns - and would require a bit more construction, but is an intriguing alternative.  I shall have to cogitate upon the matter before making any hasty purchasing decisions.

A lot of it is going to come down to how high I want the walls/railings to be, although I prefer the higher gates from Fenris.  With the 22 mm wall & Brunswick railing it stands 47 mm tall (~8 scale foot), which is the kind of imposing height I was thinking of.

I've used the Brunswick in my Park build, works well. Can't recommend the Canterbury though. The shapes are clearly too much for the cutter at those sizes.

The Canterbury does look somewhat delicate - which could be considered a tad unideal for gaming with...

I think I'm talking myself round to the Brunswick mounted atop the 22 mm wall, with brick columns in between (& the big gothic gate).

That's a rather splendid little park Mr the Shed, the fencing works very well.

Thank-you collectively for the pointer towards Fenris, I think I've found my solution.

Products for wargamers.  They do some nice fencing.

That's not bad fencing either, but I want to mount it atop a low wall so Fenris is looking good for all the bits in one place (plus I'm going to need some more cobblestone bases off them in the near-mid future, so I might as well combine the postage).

I used products for wargames for my fencing as well - combined with Ainsty cemetery walls...

Hmm, not bad options either, thank-you, but I think the Fenris bits most closely match the vision I have in my head.  (And woe betide the real world if it ever fails to match the visions in my head...)
