Pointy Pansies
« on: March 20, 2015, 07:37:01 AM »
So I took a break from the dwarfs for a while and painted a batch of Chronopia Elf Archers...

I chose to go with House Helios colors because that's what all my existing elves are. That's despite the fact that I find it extremely hard to take them seriously (if you've lived in Finland in the 70's or 80's you'll understand why).

I actually started an Obsidian Guard figure with them, but since he didn't actually share any colors with the archers he fell by the wayside... no worries, I'm finishing him tonight.

Enough talk, on with the pictures:

Note how they all have the glove on the right hand, but they are using different hand to hold the bow. Half of the elves are left-handed!

nice work! Are you planning on playing chronopia with them or other rules. It's still my favorite fantasy rules system

Now they are a pleasant change from the G.W. style Cone Head Pointy Eared Ones. The minis are UBERCOOL & the brushwork & basing add to that impression in an OUTSTANDING fashion. VERY WELL DONE!

Maybe you could have a few missing fingers on the right handed Elves...or not.

Thanks.

No real plans at this stage. Most probably I will try to use some other rules at some point:

- I have far too many figures already for any sensible Chronopia game, let alone when I'm done painting
- I was never that fond of the rules anyway, I fell in love with the figures and the imagery
- Not quite sure if I want skirmish or regimented rules

I still have 300+ Chronopia figs to paint...

Maybe I'll try adapting God of Battles. It seemed suitably fast and easy when I browsed my copy.

But which force to paint next...

I wish there was more info available on god of battles. The reason I always likes chronopia was because its was kinda mass skirmish. I would really like a generic fantasy system like that.

GoB is definitely not generic, but I think it's simple enough to be readily convertible. I find that in most cases "counts as" conversion is good enough. Just find the closest equivalent unit and use those stats directly.

And it's definitely mass skirmish with some very nicely done ideas to speed play -- e.g. Everything is always measured from the unit leader, you move him and the rest of the unit just reforms around his new position.

Eliminates one of my main dislikes about overgrown skirmish games -- individual movement measurement for tens of models.

Here's the Obsidian Guard:

Too bad they never made more poses of these...

Yes, obsidian is black, but that seemed so boring I painted the snake dark green instead.

I decided to go back to the dwarfs for a while. Painting a batch of horny guys should clear all my dwarf units. I know I must have a some individual figures stuck in somewhere, but I'll find them eventually... There certainly are no more hiding in the box titled "dwarfs".

Hi,
good job: I wait for other pics, I'm a Chronopia fan too! (a Devout army unpainted hiding somewhere...)

I know it exists a fantasy supplement for FUBAR, but never read it. Don't know if it can suit with your project...

After a foray into dwarfs (see the other thread), I returned to elves after all and painted up some Crystal Lotus militia:

I kinda like the way the blue-on-blue theme turned out. I have a handful of Lotus specials under work, they should be finished later this week. They're a bit more experimental as far as the color scheme goes (Dream Warriors and Crystal Knight).

I'm not quite sure what to do with the rest of the elves. I don't have quite enough of them for a full force of each house. Maybe I'll just do Helios and Lotus, though that would leave my Adamantium Golems pretty much unemployed...

I have a few axemen, a bunch of spearmen and a unit of swordsmen tucked away. Plus maybe some more character models. And a host of golems, ofcourse...

Very nice job, you gonna have a wonderful army!
It's really a shame leaving out obsidian serpent (you have already painted a very cool obsidian guard!): why don't use all your remaining models to assemble only a force of obsidian serpent? Maybe you'd want to use them for Elios or Crstal Lotus, but hey, these golems worth to be painted!

I'll have to see what I can muster. I want at least another basic infantry unit for Lotus to make it a viable force.

Then if I have enough leftovers, I might do a small Obsidian Serpent force as well. There's a small problem with the leader models, as I never had too many of them.

I painted this guy a while back:

Hmmm... actually almost 10 years ago.

But he has a few fellows still in lead.

Same here.  I have high hopes of Dragon Rampant.

@Maxxon - lovely paint jobs!

Thanks.

Dream Warriors, Crystal Knight and Lotus Eater are getting based tonight, expect more pics in a couple of days.

They're going to be a bit more experimental lot.

When in doubt, double-handed maul! :)
