Aughrim
« on: 23 March 2015, 02:17:21 PM »
Gentlemen, my club the Ulster Wargames Society put on an epic game of Aughrim, fought during the Williamite Wars in Ireland last weekend.  Played using 28mm figures and terrain using the Pike and Shot supplement from Black Powder , 4 players each side and 2 umpires it lasted from 10am until 5pm and was judged a winning draw to the Jacobites. The photo files are too large to be posted here but members can view them on the club site via Yahoo where I,ve posted 48 pics under cc 2000 tag.

What a lively and colorful set of photos.  Must have been a hard-fought game  :)
Now what is this whole life of mortals but a sort of comedy, in which the various actors, disguised by various costumes and masks, walk on and play each one his part, until the manager waves them off the stage?

Yes, the table size was 15 feet long by 6 wide . The Williamite infantry had a swampy / boggy ground to cross , in the centre before they could come to grips with the Jacobite foot who were firing from behind walls. The Williamite,s  had 6" half move while in the boggy ground .  Williamite cavalry were forced to assault across a causeway on their right which we represented by a broad wooden bridge  and had to advance over a narrow stone bridge on their right on a single base frontage. Surprisingly, as in the real battle they  forced both flanks, indeed their left wing was threatening to charge the Jacobite foot in the rear, until some units were detached to halt this movement.  By 5pm we had to clear away and the umpires adjudged it a winning draw to the Jacobins. See more at the Ulster Wargames Society web site.

Lovely figures.

Out of interest, where did you get the uniform information for the Irish units?

Unbelievable , as it seems, these figures are all the work of one man , Billy McClenaghen who is a long time member of the club. I,ve e-mailed him your question and he may come on and answer , if not I,ll find out and reply, meanwhile some more eye candy.
