Making thatch roofs question
« on: October 01, 2008, 01:09:25 AM »
I was wondering if anyone knows the site that has the different ways of making thatch roofs?  I can't seem to find it, don't really know if it was on this site.  My google power is really hurting today.  Thanks

Justin

This one?

Of those materials, I'm partial to the hand towel. Been meaning to try it.

I used towel for my thatch and it was incredibly easy to do.

The old towel method was very easy. I'll post a picture of a house I made. Just don't let your other half know you are stealing towels to make models. And it is a good idea to use old ones.

I have just finished the construction of a Large Farm House, still waiting to be painted - check out Flintloque - Large Farm House.

I used DAS modelling clay, rather than the towel etc. techniques.

Check it out at;

Man, the Keith Thompson Art site you have referenced for inspiration is truely awsome. Amazing stuff there and him imagination is amazing.

Anyone else have anything anywhere close to this?

Ooo, this'll be a great help. Been wondering what would work best for a while.

Wow, that inspirational site is awesome!

Yet more proof that the hand towel technique makes excellent thatch roofs. I don't really care for any of the other techniques on Neldoreth's site. I could see some use for the wet teddy bear fur if I wanted to model some really decrepit, miserable-looking village, like for a horror scenario or something. But for a more picturesque look, hand towels definitely seem like the way to go.
