Let's not forget that at least 16 of the 125 voters were contestants.

I don't think people should set their expectations too high, I think this is pretty standard for this sort of competition on the internet. Half the original entrants didn't actually finish a build to begin with even though there was an extra week added on to the time allowed. How many didn't even start? It just goes to show, talk is cheap :) Why expect any effort from spectators when the people who've publicly announced an interest don't deliver?
There's no fix for it, the internet is what it is and people are what they are.

I would like to think that everybody who did build something for this 'competition' is happy to have a terrain piece that they didn't have a month or so ago. The fact some other people came along and took the trouble to vote and say they liked what they saw is a bonus. It's easy to just build something and present it on the forum, we all do it all the time. Arranging a competition adds a certain something (hopefully fun) to the proceedings.

So, thanks to James for organising it, good work from everyone and congratulations to Paul for the win.

I'm disappointed that I didn't get mine finished despite being 80% there. Not finishing was nothing to do with lack of interest and more to do with perhaps being a little too ambitious, a busy time at work where I needed to bring stuff home with me, and a toddler with chicken pox. I certainly want to finish my build and use it.

The voting doesn't tend reflect the quality of so many entries, as only 3 can be chosen.  It means very good builds can end up with few votes, not because they are so inferior, but because the general quality is so high.  My own shortlist included half a dozen submissions and it was very difficult to reach a final three.  Winning with just over 12% of the votes cast proves how close a contest it was.

I agree.

And I agree with this statement. My terrain peice was YEARS away where it was on the queue. I can't remember having terrain done before the first miniature. Feels weird.

Great work by all!  I like all of the builds.  Apparently I have rarified tastes because none of builds I voted for won  ;D ;D  No slights to those that did win as the field of entrants was top rate.  I really thought that Snitchy's entry was just damn atmospheric. It made me shiver here on Guam and that takes some doing (unless the cargo ship with the beer can't make it into port - which mostly leads to weeping and wailing)!

NOTE;

See top of post.

The book is MORE WARGAME TERRAIN not Building Wargame Terrain.

Congratulations to the Winners!! and Thanks to James for organizing the contest. I really enjoyed it even though i did n't finish on time. I'll be less ambitious in the size of my project next time!

Many thanks for running the comp James, it was pleasure to take part in the comp and see all the finished builds in the end. Hope to see all the unfinished builds finished too in near future. And congrats to the winners of course!

Mine wasn't even on the radar. In fact I never really had any interest in making terrain pieces before this.

Doesn't that depend on how many projects you start this year and your space requirements at the beginning of next year? lol
