Saxon Church - the real thing

Although it is ridiculously close I have never actually visited Escomb church until last week. What a history, a saxon church, built from stones from a Roman fort, and still in use 1300 years later. The tiny graveyard has headstones going back to the early 18th century. I thought a few inside photos might be of interest.

Thanks Bezzo - nice place. The walls are quite thick - reminds me of a medieaval chapel here.
What is the stone behind the altar? Looks like a headstone.

Just shows how long we've all believed in fairy stories. Having said that the church I was married in harked back to Saxon times... didn't bring me much luck though!

Coming to think of it there was a relatively recent article (I think in WI?) about modelling a Saxon church that looks a lot like the one you have posted Bezzo(?)
