women in VSF
« on: 03 October 2008, 12:58:05 PM »
Searching the Illustrated London News library, I found the image:

http://www.ilnpictures.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductDetailID=81508
Princess Viktoria Luise of Prussia.

who is wearing the Prussian Death Hussar Uniform. This search made me think. I am always fond of female miniatures  and always like to see and have more minis for my lead adventures. In some genres like pulp etc there is an adequate number of female minis. Alas the manufacturers (apart Foundry and some few others) do not issue lots of minis of various ladies suitable for genre.
Since, VSF is a fantasy period, we can overcome the social stereotypes of the era and ask to have minis of ladies in Regular Army uniforms and more female minis doing jobs other than .

Anyhow, England was invaded by the prussians who are marching against London.
It is obvious that the Queen (Gaud bless 'er) will need all manpower to repell invaders. Are they enough? Does She needs more power, and where to find it? The answer is obvious. Womanpower!!!!

So, what you think?? SHould we appeal for some ladies in uniforms????
Please advise!!!

[please behave yourselves. Do not post obvious remarks, non political correct ones and be serious, please. ALso note that since as you already know my mother language is not English, some expressions I have posted might be not quite clear. Please forgive.]

I think it's a fine idea.  :)

Since there were regiments drawn from the great houses of the royalty (like the one that went missing in the Dardanelles - what were they called? David Jason was in them...) I can imagine in times of great need a regiment drawn from the ladies maids, scullery girls and housekeepers of Balmoral, Sandringham or Buck House.

An auxilliary service like the WRVS would be a good place to start, but obviously, since its for VSF, they could be beefed up with some decent firepower and clockwork transport.

And mighty fine said Princess Viktoria looks in that photo.

I very much agree with you, we need  Female figures in uniform. Who else is Harry Flashman going to try and seduce?

I would certainly buy them. I think an email to John Lowen of Ironclad miniatures is in order. He is building his range.

Something like this would look good:

Although that image is from WW1, the basic look of the uniform could be quite similar.  :)

Great thing! Now, if you consider the level of commitment women showed in the suffragette movement, think what they would do to an invader! ;)

Maybe also a "fifth column" thing, undermining the Prussian war effort in Britain. I seem to recall there´s a book by Frederick Forsyth on a woman commando hit squad trying to infiltrate a chateau housing a Wehrmacht command post via posing as the cleaning company. Something like that.

I am going to stop making anymore salacious comments about laides and uniforms as Thunderchicken will be around here later on and will no doubt have something to say ;)

Didn't foundry do young lady armed with a pistol in a Hussar uniform, with a similarly clad brother? Or was it Eureka? Or have I just lost it?

Yes, there was a Foundry pair of Victorian spies. I have been told they are a special release for Wargames Illustrated. I would very much like to find a set.

Look no further then than the Foundry website as they are now available to buy along with all their other not available special edition figures.  ;)

Unfortunately, it was also a limited edition.

Does anyone make the Deaths Head Hussars?
So many projects..... so little time.......
