Absolutely - I've got the author (Joe) champing at the bit to talk about it...

For anyone going to Salute, Joe will be on the Osprey stand (TC07), and I'll also have a demo version of the rulebook available for flick-throughs and sneak-peeks.

Excellent.  :D

Unfortunately, I'm going to miss Salute. So any little bits of information that come along will be gratefully received.
Ray.

I'll see what I can do. There will be plenty of previews and whatnot - I'm just not sure when. Post-Salute, certainly.

I've also just been reminded that there is a demo game running at Salute in the Wargames Illustrated bunker (just opposite the Osprey stand, funnily enough). Kind of embarrassed that I'd forgotten that...

From today's North Star Facebook update...

I especially love the spear - Too few fantasy models wield cool spears like that.

Another update from North Star... Today, the Sigilist. The Sigilist school specializes in words and writing, which may sound a bit vague and wishy-washy, but they've got access to some pretty powerful stuff.

Regarding wizard schools and spells, ANY wizard can use ANY spell (provided they know it), but will be pre-disposed towards some over others. Every spell has a base difficulty, which varies depending on how complex and powerful it is. This is then modified for the individual wizard by their school's relationship to the school from which the spell comes. Each wizard school can cast its own spells with no additional penalty, but will have 3 'aligned' schools, 5 'neutral' and 1 'opposed'.

All the difficulties for every known spell will be noted on the player's 'Wizard Sheet' (army roster), so there's no on-the-fly calculations needed!

Our Sigilist, for example, has the following:

  • Aligned:Thaumaturge, Illusionist, Enchanter
  • Neutral: Necromancer, Elementalist, Witch, Chronomancer, Soothsayer
  • Opposed: Summoner

She'd therefore have a much easier time casting an Enchanter spell than she would attempting a Summoning ritual.

Of course, spending experience points (amongst other tactics) can be used to improve casting difficulties, but that's something for another day...

Is that scroll supposed to be floating under her hand or is it tied to her wrist?

Like this one, good to see Mark C is still sculpting the big stuff, even if it is for someone else :)

Another great figure.  :D

I'm looking forward to seeing a few of the apprentices.. ;)

I like the thought process behind learning spells. Adds a lot more options and tactics, and won't restrict you to a few spells just because of your choice of wizard. Thanks for the extra details Smith.  :D

I know the game is based around a wizard his apprentice and human mercs but has there been and mention of larger creatures? Trolls or ogres?

Absolutely... http://www.plasticmalpractice.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/back-with-vengeance.html

What self-respecting ruined magic city would be complete without a number of wandering monsters, big and small?

Nice to see a larger picture of the Sigilist, I can use that figure for sure.
