Armies of Arcana - does it work for 10mm?
« on: 11 April 2015, 07:59:21 AM »
I havent been able to find a whole lot on people using AoA for 10mm - I know it was designed for 15mm or 28mm single based minis, like Warhammer, but I'm wondering if it works well for stands of models instead of individuals.

I play Mayhem by Brent Spivey, and really like it; Warmaster, less so, but it the most widely played 10mm game in my circle of friends, but Armies of Arcana gets such great reviews that I'm curious...

and my days of 28mm are over.

Any tips or personal experience you can share?

Have a look at the ancient rules, Sword and Spear.  They are developing a fantasy set and they look really good.  The ancient rules work really well and play very nicely, my rules of choice for this period.

I played a bunch of AoA years ago.  I see no reason why it would not work for any size.  The game is really about base sizes not the size of minis.  Using anything from happy meal toys to golden demon award level painted minis works, as long as the bases follow the rules.  At 10mm you might have to decrease range on some of the missile weapons but beyond that I would not see any problems.  It is a fun and easy ruleset that puts the emphasis on movement and tactics.
