The Train Gangs, a Pulp Alley AAR
« on: 21 April 2015, 09:03:43 PM »
Some highlight pics from a 4-player Pulp Alley scenario we played last weekend.

Somewhere in the desert wilderness of Manchuria, the good, the bad, the ugly, and the weird meet on a train....

Dad just made up this really fun scenario for us on the spot. Some of the special rules were -

1. Followers deploy on turn 1, Allies on turn 2, Sidekicks on turn 3, and Leaders on turn 4. Deployment was random, based on whichever car had the fewest characters at the time.
2. A new plot point was placed randomly on the train at the start of each turn. But no car could have more than 1 plot point at a time (Explosives, Treasure, Coded Letter, Old Map, Weird Artifact).
3. The train counted as a perilous area and moving between cars was extremely perilous.
4. If a character was knocked down or off the train (Knockback) then they were moved 18" down the track at the end of the turn.

Excellent!!

Nothing like a good training mission to prepare one's self for the real thing.

Great scenics, thrilling action, 100% perfectly proper pulp hattage, & new toys, what's not to like?

Your  Ultra-Inviso bases work spectacularly in this one Mila!!

Gotta believe that game ain't onna 3'x3' base though...

Where wuz th'damsel tied to th'rails?  The dynamite in th'gulch?  The swayin' wooden trestle?

Or are such attractive nuisances to make future appearances?

Great AAR and plenty of ideas for a game.

Thanks for sharing.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Great stuff! A real staple of pulp, and the extra rules sound like they'd do a great job of bringing the scenario to life.

What an awesome idea for a scenario! I like both the train as the game board, in essence, and the delayed entry. I may well have to incorporate this into the next story arc I run...

Genius!  o_o lol

Great minis! I'd certainly use those too. Empress has a really nice line of figs.  ;)

Thanks for all the comments, guys.

An unusual thing we did for this scenario was "draft" leagues. First, Dad placed 8 Leader cards on the table face-up and we took turns drawing one card each. Then we did the same thing with Sidekick cards, then Allies, and finally Followers.  So all four players ended up with 4 characters each.

The leagues were all really well balanced. I like using the character cards because it is so easy and fast to put a league together. With the delayed deployment, the leaders were not placed on the table until turn #4, so you had to use your lower level guys effectively.
