(Kickstarter) Project Elite
« on: 01 May 2015, 09:04:26 AM »
Just saw a post about a SF Kickstarter called Project Elite

Loads of minis for your money, which seem to have been "inspired" by numerous existing backgrounds. I can see GW's lawyers already casting cease-and-desist eyes over some of the aliens. The non-Tyranid ones, however, actually look quite nice, which makes me wonder why they couldn't come up with original stuff for everything.

$75 for the basic game, and claims to be EU friendly (ie no customs charges). I've no real interest in the game, but 83 miniatures for $75 is tempting.

Definitely looks worth the price, but the minis look a bit crap to me.  Completely fine used as intended for a board game --- but their quality doesn't look that good beyond board games.  The game price looks decent - doesn't really appeal to me.

Looks like they're well beyond what they need to succeed though, so good for them!

As I read it, $75 is only for pick-up at Spiel 2015 in Essen. $85 includes worldwide shipping.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Oops, yup, you're correct, sorry about that.

They're over twice their target fund now, so they must be doing something right...

I generally find that if I can resist it for 24 hours, then the "ooh shiny" urge goes away. Glad to say this one has been successfully resisted. If it turns up on Amazon for £50 at some point next year, we'll see ;D

Just seen a bit of a broo-ha-ha building up over this KS, thought I'd share the pictures.

health and safety ?

They went with elastic plastic so people would not stab/cut themselves on sharper plastic edges... according to the KS updates..

"suitability for a real-time game like Project:ELITE.
For this case particularly, we had decided to go for elastic plastic to make sure nobody would be injured in the edges of a hard plastic. "

err.. oh dear.

Feel for the backers  :(

Happy not to be one of them.

Hahahaha, holy...crap.  Look at my first response...and that was before seeing the end result.

That's absolutely dreadful.

Aren't you guys expecting too much from a boardgame?
Played the game yesterday at Spiel and it was a BLAST. Excellent boardgame. And the miniatures are great playing pieces for a board game.

If its a blast to play, that's great at least

If I saw it for the first time without being prior biased by the KS info and piccies etc, my view would likely be "great board game" and the pieces would barely get a mention.

But I have seen what was supposed to be offered in the box, compared to what is, and they don't seem to match.

Perhaps the best thing to say is "could have done better".

That and other companies are releasing board games that are also a blast to play, but quality of the goods, including the miniatures/playing pieces are far above and beyond this.

If the competition can do it, they should at least aspire to match them?

I didn't back so I don't have a dog in the fight, but yes, I would have expected better.

Based on the renders shown during the campaign and what is possible based on games from the big boys like Flight or smaller outfits like Plaid Hat and Green Eye Games these figures fall way short.  Heck even Mantic's board game quality is better (Mars attacks, not the old Restic).

Many backers of projects like myself are looking for the total package (good game, good figures).  In that respect, any game that can't deliver on what it promised on either side will ultimately be a disappointment.

Just another lesson Kickstarter has rammed home on other projects:  Never pledge on renders alone.
