Dark Ages Lion Rampant
« on: 05 May 2015, 06:33:54 PM »
Just a heads up that Dan Mersey has an article in this month's Wargames Illustrated magazine telling us all how to adapt Lion Rampant for the Dark Ages, so lots of excuses to play using Aetius' Romans, Goths, Franks, Arthur's Britons, Saxons, Vikings, etc.

As I have so few painted medievals, but TONS of Arthurian minis, this is great news indeed!! There are some adapted troop types, new boasts, and suggested 'war bands' (the Dark Age 'retinue') as well as options to add extra characters into the force!

Bravo, Mr Mersey - I shall be trying this out soon!!!  :D

Me too. Anything short of that would have been very silly  :)

Cool!

I'm a man of limited imagination - could anybody elaborate on what 'new' the article brings to the game?  lol

I am already building Anglo-Saxon retinue with the basic rules quite easily. I just use Foot Serjeants for Thengs and Foot Yeomen with javelins for Fyrds. Both are capable of forming shield wall (Schiltron).

However, I'll pick up the Wargames Ilustrated.

Now I know that's not true :)

New period boasts, rules for holy men & banners, fitting Dark Age troop types into the Medieval types, sample army lists and suggestions for using smaller number of figures in a "unit"

I was only looking for an excuse to get them, and this is the perfect one! My massive (by my standards!) Dark Ages armies thank you all.  ;)

Now for the bad news: my local bookstore doesn't carry Wargames Illustrated! Can anyone help me out and send me the relevant issue? I'll cough up the $$ or send you some lead as trade.
Help, please!
