How did I make my Stargate DHD
« on: October 10, 2008, 11:02:59 PM »
To answer to Keeper :

I've did my DHD for Stargate with a polymer clay, called "Fimo", oven hardening at 130°F/265°F. Easy to modeling, but rock like after cooking.

You can see more pictures here and here.

I used a homemade punch (a "210g" rolled paper...) to get the different trays, the keys have been sculpted with the back of a cutter's blade. The DHD has been cooked in two pieces: the base and the control panel, glued together after hardening. Finally, a red pearl was glued in the middle of the last tray.

The technique to paint marble comes from TerraGenesis and hieroglyphes were did by hand with Citadel "Dwarf Bronze".

Good luck for your own !

It's a bit on the big side, no? Really nice paint scheme, however. Looking forward to your future creations.

Yes, the DHD is a little too big. I've made it with a standard 28/32mm mini on the side, but when I've received the Phoenix icons minis, they were in a small 25/28mm...  :?

Merci :D

Thanks you for the comprehensive reply! :)  I understood the original article, but I wasn't sure which clay you'd used! Still looks good - and I'm not sure I agree with Bako Ikaporamee - looks about right to me size-wise, based on some of the images from GateWorld: http://www.gateworld.net/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=155604&fullsize=1

I think it might just be the angle of L'ancien's photo that makes it look bigger than it really is!

The link to the Fimo clay : http://www.fimo.com/FIMOClassic_GB.EBERHARDFABER

The marble is in fact really easy to do ! I've did this piece, cook and paint included, in about three hour.

Good luck Keeper for your own ! Don't forget to let us some pictures !
