What happened to Mongo's base (why is it warped)?

What happened to Mongo's base (why is it warped)?


Alas, Mongo's base fell prey to the sun. :-[  I plan to eventually go back and replace it with a new one, taking care to reconstruct the original base decor as much as possible and not damage Mongo Himself too much while I'm at it, because there's no way my old eyes and arthritic fingers could replicate the original detail to save my miserable life!
