Printed Rancor
« on: May 11, 2015, 06:14:09 AM »
I received my 3d printer a few days ago (Pirate3d Buccaneer from kickstarter) And got to printing stuff straight away, well straight away after I figured out I hadn't put the filament in far enough... twice.
So the first thing I printed was a couple of quickly made chainsaw fists on Google sketchup. Just to see it in action.
They turned out okay but that was mostly due to my files.
As I also got Imperial assault for my birthday, a month gone now, I started looking for Star wars stuff on thingiverse. I found a Rancor!
I printed it off over about 40+hours of printing time.
Here's a pic next to a Bright wizard. Didn't have any Imperial Assault figs handy.

The sculpt was a bit soft in places and I need to file down some areas. You can see how many pieces it was in originally. That was due to it being a posable toy. I may reprint at about 67% (which will happen all in one print) to get a better size for Imperial Assault but I'm happy with this guy. He's a little taller than the AT ST from Imperial Assault. Don't actually know how that scales in the star wars universe.

That does look nice. What strange new Sci-Fi times we live in, where we can just print our minis.

It's amazing. On close inspection though you can see print lines. I had it at its best quality, 50microns, so it's not too bad. Things with te tired skin look better as the lines kind of merge with the texture to some degree.

Just put it together last night so I'm going to prime it pretty soon. (Only have white though) and then give it a coat of brown/yellow. Probably use cheap craft paints as it is a huge beast and I'm cheap (well cheapest, I did buy a printer after all  lol )
