Viking Longhouse
« on: 14 June 2015, 03:49:50 PM »
This was my round 9 LPL entry. I suprised that no one recognized where i got my inspiration from.
The figures are from Dixon Miniatures as were my plunderers from round 2.

This is the picture from the Osprey Vikings book from Angus Mcbride. Dixon dont make the other two women in the picture so i added a wargames foundry girl on the left.

And this is how i did it. TV studio trick. Only build what you can see.

These are the other dixon civilians i have. The plunderers.

I am even more amazed now, seeing the stage You set up for the LPL.  o_o
It is amazing what You guys do for these pictures. The LPP jusst pulls out the best in us. ;)

Come to speak of recognition ... as for me, You should have make a setting from the Ronin rulebook.  :D

Thanks for letting us look behind the scenes, I always love the making offs from movies, too

That is awesome!! Reminds me of the time when I was asked to help build a couple of stages for the local theatre company and I was working with a veteran of stage designs and he showed me some tricks to hide site lines, etc. When on stage you see everything that is not done and you think that looks horrible, people will see it in the audience, yet it doesn't even come close to being seen...great tricks!!!

Brilliant!

(And I did recognise the scene from the McBride painting in what was, i think, the very first book in the Osprey Elite series. Which is on my bookshelf  :))

Inspiring stuff here! I really like the terrain you cooked up for the picture, it's awesome.

Great figs, great composition. An effort to be proud of.

Thanks

Thanks all.
The Longhouse planking is all coffee stirring sticks from McDonalds (only reason to go in there) and the crossbeams are matchsticks. I glued the wood on, went over them quickly with a medium brown wash and when they were dry did a light grey drybrush. For one photo i did not want go to too much trouble.

You know, I've never seen the pack on mini's that are featured in the first pic! I'm going to have to put 9n an order or at least pick them up at a show soon!

Great work- keep it up!
