Lovely work  :-* :-*

Forgive the rather daft question but is the white flag, white on white?

cheers

Thank you.

Essentially yes. The 'Colonel's' flag (Colonelle) at the time was an all white affair; all regiments had one, but there were differences in the details. The coloured flag (Drapeau d’ordonnance) is what distinguished the Regiment and was unique to each.

The 'Colonel's' flag (Colonelle)

In French, it's said "Colonel" also. Sometimes, the words are the same in english and french !!!  lol

Very nice painting !!! I love your bases !!!  :-*

Absolutely gorgeous !!!  ;D

Congratulations...

Best regards

Superb brushwork, wonderful stuff. :-* ;D

Can I make one small observation about the flags to really finish them off?

Touch up the joins in the appropriate colour in this case reb and black, I find just running the brush along the edge does the trick and hides the white paper.

Hope you don't mind me saying it, they are really superb, just thought I'd mention it. :)

Thanks for the compliments.

I am aware of the modern French spelling of Colonel. I was quoting Robert Hall and his usage of the word in his 2001 book. I had assumed historically the spelling had differed. But thanks for pointing it out.

Yes, I noticed after taking the pictures that I had forgotten to edge the flags. Having done this kind of thing for 40 years I am quite pleased that I still have a youthful rush to show off what I have done! I actually find that artist's felt pens make it a much quicker and easier job. Also, in the past, I have found that the paper can cut the sable on expensive brushes.

Never thought of felt pens, makes perfect sense. :)
