Just another Prof's "Somewhere in anywhere" Thread :) This time we're in Gotham and talking about 35mm figures for the Batman game made by Knight Models.

Needless to say that I like Batman movies. I really like them all, the old and the new ones. Okay, not that one with George Clooney. And I even read Batman comics from time to time, though not too many, of course, unfortunately not enough time for this sort of amusement. Thus, it was merely a question of time before I gave up resistance and got a load of shiny figures.

Now some words about these shiny figures. Yes, they’re great and I love them but I also vehemently "hate" them. To be exactly I hate it to assemble them from countless tiny pieces. Just have a look at this version of Joker, the tooth pick there is just to give you a clue about the width of the arms…

Anyway, after some titanic struggle and very loud swearing they were ready to be undercoated and I’ve forgotten all my troubles. The miniatures are really lovely and that’s all that matters. I’ve started with Joker and his crew. Actually it wasn’t my first choice, I’m rather the follower of anything Arkham Asylum but because my daughter is also going to play the game (and she’s a big follower of anything Joker, especially the Heath Ledger interpretation), the beginning was an easy decision:

The proportions of the miniatures are very realistic which is a very unusual thing. One expects to have stronger arms at a 35mm miniature:

The another good thing about Batman game is that you don’t need loads of figures to be able to play it. Batman himself on the one side and Joker with 2-3 henchmen on the other would make a perfect beginning. And that’s my plan for the moment. So now let’s hope I’ll be able to paint them before too long and get back to you with some photos of the painted versions.

Well, not really my usual terrain or the corner of the forum. But this makes it all the more exciting :)

I have had my eye on this game for a while, but now I see just how skinny and frail they are I will not bother. I would be terrified of breaking them considering the prices. Lovely when finished but I doubt I would get past the swearing and raging stage. I will however follow your thread and see if I change my mind.  :)

Actually they don't break that easily, but this sticking together of the tiny pieces might sometimes be a tad annoying..

Looking forward to see this progress!

I agree completely about both loving and hating these figures.  Those teeny little arms are horrible to stick together!

Aa, Star Trek, another nice topic to play :)

Yep and it almost drove me into despair! But having a complete Batman range with a nice rule book, everything so nicely done, that's a dream that come true :)

Excellent, I'm a Batman fan too, really looking forward to what you do with this project. ;D

The first goal is really to paint only a few figures and to test the rules playing some games with my daughter. And if the inspiration will last long enough I'll extend the it to more gangs (Penguin, Poison Ivy, Gotham City Police Department) and to have more games with my mates. Grimm also got some (Bane, of course..)

I've already  painted Joker and one of the Clowns. Will post pics asap.

Having a proper Arkham Assylum would make me more than just happy. But building terrain can last, you know. I'm going to start playing on my Post-Apoc board, imagining the abandoned quarters in the backyards of Gotham :)

I'm completely with you on the love-hate relationship with the figures. Every time I build one of the figures there is much swearing and frustration. However, once I've done the appropriate gap filling and primed them they are beauties. It's a bit of a shame that they're not better cast considering the cost-per-figure.

The upside is that (as you mentioned) the number of figures needed to get started is very low.
