Yep what Elbows said, The Scout platoon used them when I was in.
What's the load carrying capacity for those armored suits then? See what kind of limit we have to work with then.

And and its still most likely way over the being at 600Lb but we do have squad portable Lasers now. ::)

And don't get me wrong, I really like what you guys are working on. Just seeing how far we can push it. Like the Laser in the article honestly would work better mounted in a truck or as a squad perimeter/air defense unit.
And I personally would have loved a big old suit of armor when I was a 240B gunner.

"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

I got the vision of stuff like this being combat capable for about 1 hour max...delivered by tracked transport to special locations like urban combat zones, or radiation/chemical-heavy areas.  Basically a very limited scope, or supplied by a couple of tracks supply vehicles with fuel/charging/munitions and mechanics.

Hell most things are not combat effective after they have been beat up for a bit. We destroyed are Humvee's on a fairly regular bases. Things are always in the shop. The walking robot mule thing is loud as hell too, you can hear its motor coming a great ways off, especial in the woods with out any other sound. But I am guessing in the future they will figure out a way to make the batters last longer and to make it quitter.

I see them being used as you say, to do resupply runs for dismount teams, or doing work on the FOB. I can not see them used as any thing more then a mule, for a infantry squad. Doing the Bean's and bullets work. toss your rucks, extra ammo and mortar tubs on it. And when you get to what ever phase line you have for your action. unload ruck up and walk the rest of the way in.
I do not think the design team is invising them being sent into a direct fire fight. no armor. But being used as a mobile power nod seems like a good idea to me. Move the CP up the hill with out having to disconnect the radios from the generator sort of thing. Or to recharge all the tech they keep saddling the infantry with.
Could also be good for your CCP, a lot easer to move wounded on that, then on your back.

^This was always the only way I saw mecha ever happening.  As much as I love Robotech and Battletech, a humanoid shape doesn't make sense unless you need to do some heavy labor, or you're landing on a inhospitable planet with questionable topography.

A low, sleek tank would always be preferable.  So in my head I pictured space recovery mecha, and exploration or labor mecha...then being abused by rebels or freedom fighters, etc.  But genuine walking mecha (short of the transforming type which make sense given the Robotech line) simply don't make any tactical/strategic sense.

I think we could well see something like Cameron's loader from ALIENS before we see anything with an actual gun on it.  Doesn't mean it ain't cool as hell to think about though.  :D

Cheers guys

first up sorry for not replying sooner, both my pc and mac went down at the weekend :/ so replaced the pc and reinstalled the Mac yay..so catching up now :)

1: when are they available ? well they first of the stock arrived today, and i hope to order the blister packs tonight, percieved launch is 1st of August, i may release a few earlier to test the shopping cart function on the website, if so i will post here and on my games facebook page.

2: operationg time, i would agree with what was said, an hour to 2 hours is probably what you are looking at, i invisioned them being deployed from the back of a british army coyote for example or a truck, cant see them fitting in an APC.

3: weaposn, there is a hevier version on the design slate, in osc infantry can carry upto what the game calls S class weapons, a 50cal is in the scope of H class, wich is one class up, one of the game exspansions allows servos wich will allow your infantryman to carry 1 class highter, so for that a suit will be made with more armour and a bigger gun, Im being very vague on this as its no point going into to much detail about a rule set not launched yet. but plan is for the heavier suit to carry a 50 cal / Mini gun or auromatic grenade launcher for example, basicly anything infantry can operated if mounted on some form of platform.

a good way of looking at the suit fully enclosed armour, balancing power requirments, weight is more devoted to the armour and ammo than the weapon. it has a limited arc of vision, so requires infantry to spot and keep eyes open to help it along its way, brilliant for storming built up areas, but certainly is no ninja.

Hope that helps

Nice, so for my US striker or Airborne infantry I will keep them in the HQ platoon to be used at the Co's discretion.
I like what I am hearing so far and am looking forward to seeing what else you produce.
OK last spoiler question for now at least, do you think will make some suits with other nations in mind? As say Russian or Chinese one's ?
I am just guessing these things will be NATO standard is all.

Currently the idea is these are mass produced in a country i have not decided yet, probably india or china, its a colaberation between europe, america and japan in building the original technology with russian buisness financing, so is generaly used all over the world by different nations, in different configerations.

The british probably prefer the lighter version (being designed now) that is basicly an open topped version, it offers good protection has soft spots, the advantage being a larger arc of vision, in osc arc of vission can not only effect shooting but mobility.

there is a comand suit being done, this is a slightly modified version made from what we learnt getting these cast, effectlivy each new set of suit/suits will be slightly different but will fit parts from each so you can eventualy customise to your hearts content. so you could have the recon body with commander legs and the heavy weapon fit from the heavy version of the suit. also palnning on making the recon version available with seperate heads, as the pilot is slightly exsposed, you can then fit a helmet on the pilot that fits your nation, army or alien race if you so wish.

its a slow process as its totaly self financed and im currently avoiding kickstarter as i dont want to pas the 10% on to future customers, or make promises that i cant realisticly factor the hidden costs off, im going to play open handed, no secrets, (apart frm the current modern vehicle projects)

also on the drawing board is a new design of leg, designed for faster mobility, these will probably be done with the recon suits.

and thank you for your interest and kind words.

Cool, kind like how the old Maxim machine guns where used by every one in world War 1, but they where manufactured under license and they paid royalties to the company.

Maybe a suggestion down the line, have some civilian varieties for serch and rescue, and maybe construction, or wear house work.

There is the ability for a civilian version in the second pack in some regards, there is a battering ram come steel cutting claw arm, as used by the emergency services, if you pair that up with the empty arm you have the fire service modle maybe, if you pair it up with the riot sheild arm and pistol arm from the command pack you could have a police hostile entry version.

what program are you using for your 3d work?

Hey Scurv, I'm the sculptor.   I've been using a combination of programs.  Sketchup, Z-brush, Blender, even Poser.   This particular render, and most of the sculpting here is sketchup, works well for hard angled chiseled corner stuff.  Has a lot of limitations but has a simplicity that is attractive too for the right project.    Working on my z-brush skills more and more to push into that solely and get past those limitations.  :)
