Sketchup IMO is much better than 123D Design. It's much more flexible and intuitive. Also has much better community support and plugin base.

Although TBH I haven't looked at 123D Design in like a year. When I tried it, it kinda seemed like a half-baked attempt to copycat Sketchup, only with a bizarrely unintuitive interface and restrictive toolset. Also the mobile version is DIRE, and whoever made it should have their paycheck rescinded.

Blender is pretty nice if you can get your brain around the initial learning curve (the sheer density of the UI prevents it from being intuitive regardless of layout/operation). It has a lot of features and abilities that Sketchup lacks, which lets you do complex stuff very quickly and easily, BUT there are a few of Sketchup's basic and useful tools that Blender has no analog for. Can do amazing stuff in blender, but still sometimes find myself going "AaaaAAgh! My kingdom for a Sketchup-like draw rectangle tool!".

123D Make, however, is AWESOME, and massively useful for anyone looking to make real word models out of a digital meshes. Build your model in Sketchup (or Blender, ZBrush, Max, whatever), then import into Make to turn it into sections or templates or whatever else you need for the physical construction.

AA12s! I'm not even a gun sort of guy, I just love how well designed they are from a biomechanics perspective. Someone needs to make sprue of them for 28mm.

Forearms and magazines need more subdivision IMO. Don't want to have chunky poly curves when modelling for printing*. Otherwise lookin' boss, hoss!

*Disregard if these are still WIP. I've just seen too many visibly low poly prints cast as models for sale, so it's become a bugbear for me.

In addition a heavy version is planned with a chain gun, and heavier armored plates, just in case the suits come across other suits, and fancy a tactical advantage.

Proper chain gun, or video game lingo "chain gun"?

Would love if it was the former, as actual chain guns are IMO a perfect fit for a mech-mounted/carried weapon, but you hardly ever see them. Usually these days when geeks say "chain gun" they actually mean Gatling gun, thanks IIRC to Doom or Quake misusing the term back in the day.

im doing some reaserch into weapon sytems and such currently, a lot of thought is going into these, carl has been doing a great job on these and they have been a good learning curve for him and me, as time goes on little refinments will be made, and being digital if popularity is there then plastic is a strong dream.

also in my thoughts are 15mm version.

the first suits are up to buy now :)

Thank you.

had a few sales last night, i know one of the purchasers so i will contact them today to see if thay had any issues.

Ordered two of them. They look great and they will fit in with my Cyberpunk games.

They look great, but I blow my hobby cash for the month already. So I will most likely get some in September. :)

heavy weapon wise im looking at 2 options

one is the mini gun, the issue i have with this is although a very lightweight weapon for its class, its power requirments do add a lot of weight.

another option is this

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M230_chain_gun

as used on the appache gunship, ammunition is designed to be light weight and its power requirments low.
the arm design will allow weapon options to plug in i hope, with a larger chain,

fusion weapons and such scifi shinanagins... book 3 for the game will have a progression to more experimental scifi like weapons, when this happenes there will be a new suits that takes the tek forward to use with these weapons, these will work along side the old suits, and you could use the old suits as part of rebelion forces for example.

I'm loving the figures, but have some observations about those suggested weapons:

I'm not sure the suit would be able to handle the recoil of a 30 mm cannon.  The use of rotary barrel MGs/cannons is when very high rate of fire is required - I'm not sure these guys would really need that (plus, carrying enough ammo to make it worthwhile would be very heavy).

I would suggest maybe a 7.62 mm or .50 cal/12.7 mm chain gun as the MG option & a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher for the exploding rounds option (both with suitable ammo feeds & reserves).

(Or if you fancied something a little more exotic, a belt-fed version of the XM25 air-bursting grenade launcher: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XM25_CDTE)

Absolutly totaly agree :)

yup the HMG and automatic grenade launcher as put on some vehicles is a absolute must have.

some vehices alsosupport the Minigun, im not so sure on this, but it has a cool factor, and if it does happen ot will be on a heavier suit slightly with an aditional power pack.

im not quite there yet as i have other bits in production que first and i only have so many me's :)

once i do get to that stage i will be taking a long hard look at information and practicalities..

good news is the first vehicle is getting close to completion, just needs a few tweeks till im happy with it, although to be honest as it is to the layman its ready to roll.

also in next week have a nice littel news flash comming out as regards some infantry, allowing you to add lots of infantry to your moderns relativly cheap. Less than £2 a mini, mostly suitable for genric modern americans and maybe PMC, they will aslo have avaliable in futre a range of head swaps to personalise them... but they are yet to be sculpted. so few pennies so little time...

will try show some pics soon of some painted examples other have done.

thank you for reading, as a little fish in a big pond i find any chat very encouraging and it helps me push forward.

In OSC you can have passive protection, in some ways thats the little tubes on the left above the arm, they launch charges to intercept warheads.

reactive armour generaly uses the same rules in the game for simplicity sakes to keep thinks moving, thats not to say in the future things can change if i think of an interesting fun mechanic.

players are encouraged to customise thier suits as much or as little as they like :)
