Looking for Battlefield Evolution info
« on: 11 July 2015, 07:16:08 AM »
Recently I've been looking at Mongoose's defunct "Battlefield Evolution" rules as a possible candidate for playing fun realism-lite modern wargames in my Imagi-Nation.  I hear that the game had quite a loyal following during its brief lifespan with lots of fan created material and a dedicated website, but since Mongoose ceased supporting it, its entire web presence appears to have disappeared off the face of the internet.

Are there any BF Evo veterans out there who might have archived some of that fan-created material who'd be willing to forward it on to me?  Specifically I'm looking for vehicle stats for older and obsolete kit, which isn't covered by the game's official near-future setting.  I know I can probably extrapolate those stats myself without too much difficulty, but I'd be interested to see what more experienced players have already come up with.

Failing that, if you played BF Evo back in the day, how was it?  I'm looking for a fun game that lets me put lots of toys on the table and handle a platoon or two per side without bogging down - something on a par with WH40K but with modern trappings.  Sound about right?

Thanks for your time.

...

A week later and the sound of the tumbleweed rolling on by kind of answers my question.  Guess the size of the game's fanbase must have been overstated a touch if no-one is willing to own up to playing it!  :-)

The search continues.

Are you talking about the files of the former evocommand.com fanpage for Evo?

I honestly don't remember where they came from, Sgt. Scream, but they are formatted like the 1st edition BF:Evo unit cards.

It wS evo command but the forum is dead😕 it moved from mongoose then and you could use the main rules to develop your own, I had a zombie set and think aegis from this forum developed it. Might be worth looking for an old yahoo group?

Did they come as pdf? Reason I am asking is: I was one of the creators of those fan-made sets in 2007 thru 2009 over at evocommand. I have lost all of my work and those that "Pietia" (Tomasz P.) made in a computer crash.  :?  When the funds were running low to keep that forum for Battlefield Evolution alive, we ended up having to shut the place down and in the end it was also spread with lots of spam ads since the owner couldn't afford good software to keep it clean.

Yup. They are four or five PDF's, one for MEA irregulars, one for Middle Eastern Government, one for expanded British and one for Russia, if memory serves.

..and one for the PLA too.

Thanks Goober, those PDFs were just what I was looking for.  Although they're statted for the original edition of the game, it was fairly simple to adapt the stats to the final edition.

It's a real shame the game died off so completely.  It looks like a fun little set of rules and once it broke away from being locked to Mongoose's miniature releases it could have had a whole new lease of life.

I'm planning on giving it a run out in 28mm soon, see how it plays.

Already got it, thanks Londoncopper.

It's available from Wargames Vault as a PDF

http://www.wargamevault.com/product/57917/Battlefield-Evolution-Modern-Combat

They also have the "Advanced Rulebook", which is the first edition of the game.  It's tied more tightly to the miniatures Mongoose released and doesn't actually include any troop stats, so is a lot less useful to anyone looking to resurrect the game.

I did have some of those stat cards downloaded onto my old PC, if l can get it working l will let you know, it was a great game.
Another line of enquiry is a friend of mine who still has his collection with the cards, unless it is just the home made cards you need?

I'm sorry to be late here, but I have both printed copies (v1 and v2) and the fan made pdf somewhere in a hard drive, If you need any info from them. I am (was ?) a great fan of these prepainted miniatures and own a "reasonably" large collection of them (on my blog // tag Battelfield Evolution).
A word for miniatures, scenery and rules compulsive buying ? Zhobbyllness !

Which of the Modern Warfare fan-made unit pdf do you still have? Looking for USMC and PLA ones.
