Who makes FIW regular infantry packs in varied poses?
« on: July 15, 2015, 05:33:48 AM »
Hi everyone,

While I have several of Conquest's Compagnie Franche de la Marine, British Rangers, and Woodland Indians, I'm looking for some compatible regular French and British infantry that would be in more varied poses than the Conquest figures.  Those seem all fine and good for ranked up troops, but my interest in FIW is strictly small-scale skirmishes (I'm using Song of Drums and Tomahawks), and as such I'll only ever be fielding a small number of figures at a time, and would like more than just the "standing and firing" and "kneeling and firing" poses.

I'm not normally much of a scale/proportions stickler, but I've ruled out Front Rank as too chunky for my tastes, and while Galloping Major's minis look great, it seems their range is restricted to irregulars and provincials.  It's hard to tell how the Old Glory figures look from the website, but they come in packs of 30 very similar poses anyways, so probably aren't to my tastes, either.

So who else is out there for FIW?  Preferably with availability in the US.

May well be that what I'm looking for just isn't out there, but if it is, then thanks in advance for any assistance!

For British regulars I can recommend the NorthStar Highlanders - the poses are diverse and I found them fun to paint.

You could use Warlord Games British and French regulars - but I find the cast quality not so good with plenty of flash. Think their poses are a little samey though.

AW miniatures look nice but haven't tried them myself.

You're right about Galloping Major - they have provincials but no regulars...yet. But they don't blend so well with ranges other than Redoubt.

Thanks for all of the recommendations!

I'm combing through them now, but at a glance I'm awfully taken with some of Minden and AW's miniatures.

I have sold and am selling off all my conquest ones and replaced them with redoubt because of the variety of their poses, and as already mentioned the two do not fit scale wise.

The Eureka figure I have fits with redoubt and some of the Perry Indians are not to far out but a different style - they might fit in with your other Indians

But if you want Marines with variety its hard to go past these. (My next Redoubt purchase)

You should be aware that the Warlord Games figures are the Conquest Miniatures figures, but cast and distributed in the UK.

Redoubt and Galloping Major really go well together and Redoubt has a very comprehensive range of French and British regulars.

After I purchased the Conquest settler figures I was very disappointed in the size difference to the Redoubt and Galloping Major figures, then I thought why not use them as teenage kids due to the size difference with Redoubt and Galloping Major and they work great together this way. I just finished running a game at Historicon and all 12 people who played told me they hadn't even thought about doing that...it worked great...so just think outside the box. I am thrilled to hve them now!!
