...and bears! Oh my.
« on: 16 July 2015, 06:30:38 PM »
My first attempt at procuring a bear for my Frostgrave party was a bit of a comedy failure of scale.

The perils of EBay.

Anyone know of a good source for a 28mm bear (or similar sized beastie) that won't break the bank for delivery to the UK?

I would be looking at the Schleich or Papo plastic collector toys because I think you want it that bit larger and imposing for effect. For about £5.00 its going to knock spots off any metal or resin offering for cost.

Ah, good idea.  Not a route I'd considered.  They do seem to swing the other way to too huge however.

Wargames Foundry make a set, think they were £12 for a pack of three:

They do a ton of other animals as well.

Northstar has a range of boreal animals:

DeeZee do some cave bears and a range of modern animals and prehistoric mammals:

Papo and Schleich often do great models, as Svennn suggested, but scale can vary wildly.  Papo sell a standing grizzly that's huge - at 13cm tall it can probably look over a 28mm house...

A bit like an anteater...

Warbases do a cheap one , I think it's 28mm.

Looks like you fell for the MiniFigs trap!  I did the same thing years ago and was similarly disenchanted by the tiny tiny "bear" i received.

Reaper has a pretty nice dire bear:

Oh, and if you can track down one of the ones Majestic Bear Games used to sell, they're pretty great. OOP though, afaik.

Northstar were selling one in the Frostgrave addons for 4.50 pounds in metal. Hopefully I'll get to see how big it is when it arrives with my frostgrave stuff. I think it will be more expensive than that now though.

D&D plastic minis (again !  :D) have a nice 28mm plastic bear. I painted 3 of them from my Ashardalon boxset.

Well excuse me.  ;)

These can't be bears then.

And there is always the D&D minis prepaint...let me know if you need a 28mm size comparison.
