Franco-Thai War
« on: July 26, 2015, 02:22:03 AM »
Not one to let a period with little readily available information and even fewer produced wargaming figures go to waste, I've started working on some 28mm Franco-Thai War figures. First up are the forces of the Royal Thai Army. These figures are a mix of Bob Murch's Chinese Pulp Figures, Brigade Games WW1 Russians, Crusader Miniatures WW2 French Infantry heads, Empress Miniature tankettes, some green stuff, and a little "from 3 feet away it looks close enough". I like the idea of an army that fought in the backwater of a campaign (Laos, Cambodia, Burma), against both the Axis and the Allies (Britain, Vichy France, Japan, Nationalist China, plus bandits), used a lot of old equipment, and had to draw on a variety of sources to equip its troops. In many ways, I see the Thais as an effective WW2 "Back of Beyond" sort of army.

The first photo is of my force commander and a sniper.

Haha, this is brilliant - it's always good to see the obscure armies and conflicts of the first half of the 20th century get their due. I love it.

Wonderful stuff. I love esoteric armies.

missing the Vickers Mk.E Type B tanks, the cavalry and the artillery  ;)

Dans les situations critiques, quand on parle avec un calibre bien en pogne, personne ne conteste plus. Y'a des statistiques là-dessus.

Very good conversion job!  :)
"The enemy? His sense of duty was no less than yours, I deem. You wonder what his name is, where he came from. And if he was really evil at heart. What lies or threats led him on this long march from home. If he would not rather have stayed there ... in peace. War will make corpses of us all."

Force of Arms did quite a nice range of Vickers 6 tonners - with the original Vickers turret and the modified one used by the Finns...

not sure who has the rights now (Warlord?)

WG have just released a Polish Vickers Type E. It would need to be reverted to the original as the Poles had made their own mods.
Cheers,

Company B is in the process of casting the Vickers 6 ton export tank, so that will definitely be an addition to the collection. Here are two shots of the Thai crewed Japanese Type 92 70mm infantry gun. Photos of the first of my 5th Regiment FFL to follow this week.
