Converting Old West Buildings to Pulp Era Buildings
« on: 30 July 2015, 01:35:58 AM »
At this year's Historicon I picked up one of the 4Ground/Dead Man's Hand laser cut MDF models and enjoyed building it this past week. After painting it up I realized that the detachable roof could be replaced by an alternate tin roof and the model would then serve as a nice mission church for my South Seas adventures.

This led to back engineering an alternate Western roof for a Pulp island building I had constructed some time ago.

The results of both modifications are pictured here:

I actually prefer the black and white pics as they have a more old Hollywood feel.

Bob;
How did you paint the laser cut buildings…spray primer first or not? Or did you just dry brush them? I also posted this on TMP just in case.

P.S. It was great seeing you at H-Con this year…it has been a while.

Wow, that "church" roof extension is amazing!  :o  :o  8)

That is so much more than just a corrugated cardboard roof, its a completely different building! Very nice, and a great use of terrain.

Cheers

I was enjoying watching these come together on your Facebook account, thanks for sharing the final pictures here, especially the wonderfully atmospheric B&W shots.

Alternate roofs is something I've thought about for various buildings I've done but never followed through with, it really does transform the base building to another locale/era entirely, doesn't it!

Nicely done!  :) It makes those models even more versatile.

Great work. Are they permanent or can you change the roofs back?

Brilliant!
 :-* :-*

I always thought that old west buildings would work well in other theatres and this proves it.
I was planning on just some simple additional sections that can be added on for the right 'feel', but you have taken it to another level with those roof additions.
