Vallejo Still Water Effect
« on: August 09, 2015, 01:56:27 PM »
Hello everyone!

I have a little situation trying to use the still water effect. I've made a round base (40k terminaor size) for my viking warlord for Saga, and I decorate it trying to simulate a "little river" in it, so when I put on the product in it, it spills, because it is liquid, so, here's my question, has anyone know how to make a "container" to avoid the product to spill out?

Anything would help, I've tried cork, tape...but it hasn't worked.

Thank you very much in advance. Big hugh.

I make a little lip of PVA glue around the edge of the area to be filled.  Let it dry clear, then use the water effect.

Ironically, the water effect isn't water, so it has no surface tension - that's why it runs everywhere

You can also add a little lip with putty to contain the Water Effects.

Alternarively, you can use some of the Water Texture effects and just smooth the surface with a wet sculpting tool. Being viscous (it's a bit like mayonnaise...!) it tends to stay where you put it more often.

Both dry prettey clear but, based my own experiences of them, be warned that:

1) They shrink a lot, so you will probably get a "dish" effect around the edges. How much depends on how deep the water. Deeper water - more exaggerated effect.

2) They need a somewhat textured surface to grip to, or they can "peel" off when dry.
