I like the faces since they are in a style I'd like to emulate.  I can't paint the whites of their eyes with pupils; it's just not going to happen, so was thinking of using a method such as your with black, "shadowed" eyes.  What was your method of painting the faces, including highlights, washes, etc.?

For most of them I started with a Black prime, based in the old Citadel Tallarn Flesh, washed in Reikland Fleshshade, then highlighted in Kislev Flesh. Some of them I went back with a controlled wash of Reikland Fleshshade again. Because of the sculpts I painted very few of the eyes in a traditional manner. I think I hammered each of these figures out in 1-2 hours. The method I used isn't great but its good enough considering the time spent.

I like 'em a lot, DancesWithHippos.  Very effective.

Painting eyes gives me palpitating fits as well, Philhelm.

A while back, I took a hiatus from the hobby for a few years and thought I was done when I couldn't seem to focus well enough to paint.  I'm far-sighted, so there is a minimum range at which I can place something in front of my face and focus on it.  A magnification visor saved the day, but painting the beady little eyes is a bit much, sadly.

Great work!

You've already got quite the warband there, with some interesting specialists in the mix.

And are those Gripping Beast Viking Hirdmen torsos I see there? ;)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

You can use a little off-white (ivory mixed with white for example) to paint in the eyes approximately. Then (when fully dry), thin a mix of black and brown ink right down and add a little so that it flows around the eye and defines it.

I'd suggest doing the eyes first, then the rest of the face. That way you can re-do them if you're not happy without soiling the rest of the face.

This way, you "paint the eyes" in a such a way that they are painted, but avoids having to do the fiddly black-white-black pupil approach that most people use. Looks quite convincing from about 12"+ too!

Yes, there are two GB bodies and heads in the mix. One for an additional Knight and the other for a Marksman. I needed them to be in chainmail and the GB figures were on hand. They fit in nicely I think.

Thanks for the compliments guys. A lot of the stuff on my new blog has been dedicated to Frostgrave so far. Feel free to check it out ( it's easier than posting 20 pictures here lol). I'll have some more stuff from different games and genres up soon enough.

Really nice paint jobs and basing.  That metal knight is a big figure.  As you would expect a knight to be!

Yes, he is quite large. He doesn't really seem to be out of scale as much as he seems to be just a big guy.

I added this guy to the mix yesterday. I'm thinking he may serve as a Templar.
