Who makes Robot figures?
« on: August 24, 2015, 06:58:31 AM »
Hi, its been awhile since I've done any sci-fi projects. I'm looking for a good assortment of robot models, but have not found any that meet my requirements.

I don't want any that are a. GW figures; and b. Retro Atomicpunk or cute. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bob

Mongoose Publishing have Judge Dredd robots.
Ramshackle Games has robots (part of their kickstarter - may not yet be publically available).
There are also loads of robots in the Corvus Belli range of Infinity.

I have a soft spot for these Oathsworn robots from a successful Kickstarter project.

Have not seen them on sale yet, however.

EM4 plastics...

They're called 'Mechs' officially, but I've used one to good effect as an enforcer robot in a 28mm scifi project (and another one as a space ship to match Silent Death fighters).

Can't beat the price either; 5 of 'em for GBP 2,5!
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Mantic have two Dreadball teams that are comprised of robots:

The Ro-Tek Brutes:

And the Chromium Chargers:

Of these, the first team (the Ro-Tek Brutes) are a huge pile of mix-n-match parts, so that you can make lots of different configurations. The Chargers are more "human" in their form, but that may suit you better.

Two further comments on these:

(1) You can find them rather cheap if you shop around (lots of people offloading KS stuff for example)

(2) They are a hard PVC plastic rather than the usual hard Styrene plastic. This means that mould lines can be a tricky to remove neatly (possible, just a bit more work than usual), and that you will need superglue to stick 'em together.

Finally, note that Mantic's models are generally more 25mm than heroic 28mm scale.

Cheetor has painted up a number of robots for his SF non-combatants thread.  See these entries in particular:

For military robots, have a look at GZG's Stargrunt "Remotes, Drones and Bots".  They are 15mm, but I see no reason why they couldn't be used with 28mm:

although described as hard suits these could make interesting robots.

Good point, Mr Evil.  I suppose a lot of powered armour and humanoid robot types are interchangeable.  Hasslefree's Grymn might work well, because, since those are supposed to be space dwarfs inside the suits, their body shape isn't human-standard:

You could also give them all the gizmos to add to the robotic look, like the red one here:

These from Minibits might not pass the Atomicpunk test but could be useful ABC Warriors, robot cats and dogs as well!
