Annie, you are of course correct regarding Carlsburg, I simply hoped the old advertising campaign would ring a few bells.
Possibly one of the Copper Dragon beers?

I think a couple of wizards plus "anything you like" is the standard for Frostgrave warbands!  lol

@Precipitation

Before buying anything, have a look at those long lost figures at the back of the cupboard or up in the loft, get them out dust them down. Any of them that is Medieval looking or can be made to look that way can be drafted into a Warband, as can figures already painted for other games, my saga boys (and girls) are making regular appearances.
Thats the beauty of the game any figures from anywhere could be Frostgrave adventurers.

On a slightly more practical note you will need a Wizard, an Apprentice a collect of henchmen, Thugs armed with a hand weapon (no shield), Thieves dagger armed, Warrior types armed with hand weapon and shield and some with 2 handed weapons, that should fill out your basic rank and file. Your Warband will only be 10 strong max and you might need a few spares to represent different henchmen but thats about it.

Oh! You might want a warhound and something to represent treasure tokens but thats about it.

By the way welcome and enjoy the frozen city of Felstadt aka Frostgrave.  :)

PS Archers, you need some archers, in fact don't leave home without a couple!

Archers or crossbows? I'm going for crossbows for my first warband; they fit the theme more.

Archers or Crossbows, well entirely your choice. I prefer Archers because they don't have to reload but that +2 to damage from a xbow is not to be sniffed at.

Ooo, er, not wanting to spoil the lovely acclaim for Frostgrave by Philhelm, but...

It wasn't a kickstarter.

& Osprey Publishing have been around longer than GW. Admittedly the games arm hasn't, but the publishing company has been around since 1969, currently owned by Bloomsbury Publishing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloomsbury_Publishing

I don't want this reply to take anything away from Philhelms marvellous defence of our little game, just thought I'd throw some boring facts in there.  :)

Carlsberg is terrible, I'm glad they don't make skirmish games!

Well, you've probably only tasted the lager piss they are selling all over the world, then. They actually make quite a few very good craft beers and ales, but I doubt that many of them are marketed elsewhere than over here.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Haha!  I stand corrected.

I saw references to a "Nickstarter" when I first heard of the game and just assumed that the game was a kickstarter that struck gold.

I wasn't previously familiar with Northstar miniatures (although in retrospect, I have certainly seen them around) or Osprey publishing, but my experience was pretty narrow since I was mostly involved with Games Workshop games.  Perhaps "backwater" was a bit harsh, but I simply meant to highlight the fact that I started looking for alternatives to one of the supposedly largest and most well-known gaming companies (at least from my perspective)* and found one with which I was previously unfamiliar.

*But wait, Games Workshop is, by their own admission, a miniatures company rather than a gaming company.

When I came to this forum not that long ago, I didn't expect to want to go out and buy a rule system.  But after reading what people are saying about Frostgrave, now I am. I've been digging around the storage cupboard pulling out boxes of old lead to see what I have for the game.

I've also been talking to my son about playing (I've decided playing it is going to be part of his extracurricular learning whether he likes it or not).  Initially his idea for a warband was a Harry Potter theme, with Dumbledore as the wizard, Potter as the apprentice and other characters like Hagrid in the group (I'd actually like to see that). His newer plan is more a Fellowship of the Ring type theme, which I can see working well.
