Sell me some rules
« on: 14 May 2016, 07:23:38 PM »
I'm trying to  finally get all of my painted but never used figures on the table.

To do this I've decided to pick a bunch of figs at a time and then look for some rules to use with them.

My first pick are Eli Arnt's exelent YanDrassi available through 15mm.co.uk http://www.15mm.co.uk/products/rap024p-yandrassi-mixed-force-builder
And a slightly reworked P.A. from Brigade models http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/15mmSF/Figures/SF15-005.html

So,
this is me

these are the bad guys

Terrain will be space ship corridors and/or densely covered terrain.

Please help me kill them in a third person shooter tabletop extravagansa.

I'd suggest you have a look at FUBAR. The core rules are meant for Sci-Fi and modern games and are only one page long.
Several players have written variants and supplements for different uses, like Generic Sci-Fi, Boarding Actions and several universes known from other sources like film, TV, games etc. And these are very conveniently linked on the core rules' page that I've linked here.

Not sure if still available.

Something I posted on my platoon leader game:

Overall I've been using these rules:

Gruntz 15, good fast play rules, lots of options for unit design and suitable for more casual players

Victory Decision Future Combat, upgrade chrome a bit, easy to build forces because they are basic archetypes

Platoon Leader, lots of chrome, very involved design system to match that chrome, gameplay very reminiscent of StarGrunt II

I feel that having all 3 covers all the spectrum of players I might face :) ... nevertheless... of course if a new set of rules I'll get them quickly.. because... I'm a wargamer, we accumulate lead and rules !!

( all those rules are in wargamevault )

cheers
Francisco

However, none of the above rules sets will give a good third person shooter, without some fairly serious moding. At present there doesnt seem to be a good engine for gun crawl type adventures, especially ones that are solo driven and randomly generated, which is what the OP seems to be asking for.

oops... I missed that line.. that is true indeed...

maybe the expansion for Gruntz 15 done by Clear Horizon ?

It is that kind of 5 guys vs lots of bad guys :)  http://www.wargamevault.com/product/143154/SpecOps-A-Gruntz-Module

If solo play is important, then try 5150 by THW. Uses any figures as well.

It is indeed, and plays well as a solo game:

Thanks for all the great suggestions.
I've decided to go with two rule sets.
For the indoors/space ship terrain, which is gridded, I'll be using Guncrawl from Genet models .
For those games that are not on gridded terrain I'm going to go with Gruntz Special Ops by Clear Horizon.
I have used Gruntz before for solo games and this will be a great exuse to finally buy the expantion ;)

Ok I´m late in here but if you search something Shooter like maybe the FRAG Ruleset from the SJG Boardgame could fit well.
