There's a Hirst Arts UK site. Never used them but they're listed as a reseller on the Hirst Arts site. Probably cheaper than ordering direct from the US with postage and whatnot.

I've got quite a few.
Mostly picked up from ebay, but found a shop a few years back that stocked them.
If you ever take a week's holiday in Scarborough you are welcome to borrow them.


Waugh Games in Midlesbrough had some in use last time I was there - not sure if it was just for shop scenery or if they were renting them out.

You also want to be careful which plaster you get, as some are much stronger than others. If you have a look through the Hirst Arts Forums you'll find plenty of information about the different types that are out there.

Not strong enough. The Hirst Arts forums have some good tips on plaster types. There was a thread about a year ago here that had great sources. I saved it to my computer favourites... But then my pic died...

Just ordered a mould from the uk hirst arts site. Anybody know where i can get good strong plaster from in south wales cause it will be cheaper to pick up than pay the shipping!!

Plaster is heavy, shipping will never be cheap. Which is why I bought big bags.

One of the Woodlands Scenic plasters is Herculite I believe. You can probably buy that locally and is pretty strong. Just bear in mind that it's a 'premium brand' which will affect costs and the packet isn't that big. Plenty to have a try with and see how it goes, if you decide to do a big project however, I would suggest getting a 25kg bag. Even with shipping it's going to be much cheaper and you get more options.

My mould arrived today which was really excellent service from the guys of foundations of war, using plaster of paris from local art shop at moment for some practice/test castings..

Make sure you thoroughly dry the castings.
Either get a plastic tray/box (with no lid) to put castings in and sit it in the airing cupboard for a few days, or a clean (new) metal baking tray (Poundland probably have them) and put the castings in the oven after it is turned off but while it is still warm - this way is much quicker.
Makes the pieces take paint (and more importantly glue) much better than if you don't. Also makes the pieces a little bit lighter.

thanks guys, did put the castings in the oven for about a hour on lowest setting..
