Another Post Apoc Car Thread. Update 10th October
« on: September 22, 2015, 05:17:34 PM »
Like everyone else I saw Fury Road and immediately wanted to do some post apoc auto-carnage. After picking up a bunch of hotwheels/matchbox cars a while back I've only recently got around to doing some stuff. As mentioned they're hotwheels/matchbox scale with 1/72 gladiators as crew/drivers.

So far I've only finished the one car, the colours are super saturated in the pic and it's not really that bright, especially the gold on the front.

Currently working on a further two cars. The flamethrower truck which has a gunner to go on but he needs new arms and the truck will be painted first (learned that from the first one...).

And some kind of nitro boosted drag racing buggy?

I love the gladiator with the explosive lance.  The front end of that thing also looks like it means business.  Can't wait to see the rest painted.

Got the other two finished up (well almost...)

The flame truck still needs it's gunner but I'm going to need to sculpt arms for him so been putting it off.

but it will look something like...

and finally a group shot for relative sizes

These are awesome!

Could you explain how you did the weathering on the paint?  It looks like layers of black (bottom) > rust > white > red (top)?

So I was kinda following the tutorial on Ramshackle Games site (here).

Basically undercoated black, drybrushed with gunmetal. Then a wash of black brown to dull it down followed by a wash of orange brown for the rusty look. For the paint I roughly stippled on bonewhite then filled it in to leave the edges rough and finally did the paint the same way on top of the bonewhite but leaving the edges showing a bit to look like undercoat. Following that tutorial I was initialy skeptical I could pull it off but it's really simple and looks pretty effective I feel.

Yeah, it looks awesome.  They really look neat together as a group too.

May I ask where the bit of engine poking out of the truck's bonnet is from?  That a Ramshackle bit?

The blower? It's from the engine pack from Slug Industries (6milphil on the forum), the wheels on the truck are also by him. The completed engine pack is on page 12 of his car thread.

Those are looking really good, especially the paint worn off the armour.  8)

Whopping good work.

Cheers for all the comments folks. I thought I would update this with the next cars I'm working on before I start painting.

The bottom right car doesn't have any weapons as yet. I wanted to do some simpler cars this time that didn't require converting gladiators for crew or taking them apart. Ended up sculpting a driver for one and sawing out the back of another to fit the engine...  ;D

I also have the bug which didn't really fit the hot rod theme of the rest.

Ok been a bit but finally finished off three new cars. Shadows are a little dark but I'm sure i'll get the hang of taking photos eventually. I'm currently re-doing all the bases as I picked up a wasteland mat from Deep Cut Studios and want them lighter to match it better.

...and my personal favourite, the noisy cricket, tiny car, huge gun.  :D

and a group shot.

Nice set you have there, same era, and same colour scheme. very cool.

In that last shot, I like the exhausts on the left car!  :o  8)  8)
