ACW painting; a confederate brigade. 28mm sash and saber.
« on: October 03, 2015, 09:44:36 PM »
In between painting Frostgrave stuff, I needed a 'historical' break.  My pals and I decided each to do one confederate and one federal brigade.  Well I finished the Rebs and they are below.  I modeled them after Anderson's brigade at Shiloh.  They are sash and saber models and I was satisfied with them.  Lots of different poses, and these were only in the right shoulder shift, there were lots more poses in skirmish figures.  Next to the Feds!

Very nice! They look quite imposing all ranked up like that.  I'm eager to see how your Federal boys turn out.  And I'm also a bit jealous of how much progress you've already made  :)  You've got a lot more to show than I have.

I myself could never get into Sash and Saber.  There's a great variety in poses, as you say, but the sculpts always seemed a bit awkward to me. Well, different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Now what is this whole life of mortals but a sort of comedy, in which the various actors, disguised by various costumes and masks, walk on and play each one his part, until the manager waves them off the stage?

Hi guys thanks for the nice comments.  Yes the sash and saber have a 'look all of their own'.   The perry Acw have a different sculpting style for sure, but there is something quirky and vibrant that I like with the sash and saber models.  Feds next month with any luck!

What size are the bases, the painting is great.

The base sizes are 2" x 2".  I have 5 regiments of Feds and 5 regiments of Rebs, with a few 12# napoleons and a couple of rifles.  Me and a couple of my war gaming friends each pledges to do equal sets of Acw regiments so we could really have some big battles.  Well I finished first, now the pressure is on my pals to finish up!  Or take my verbal abuse for not following through on a war gamers promise!!
