Very cool. I also see plenty of modularity possible there.  You could shift the road/inn to the left...and move the castle to the right, or shift the river to the right (you'd lose a tile here).  But while not hugely modular with a few more tiles you could do plenty of variations.  I think a few tiles worth of various poor farming land wouldn't hurt too...separated by some small crumbling stone walls - just a few tilled tiles etc.  It's a wonderful project - can't wait to see more.

It looks utterly fantastic Steve. A work of art, literally and metaphorically. Congratulations.
I am wondering if there's a way of joining it onto my cave wars terrain to make one very very long board!  ;)

Unless the Great Houses of Westeros have developed Armored Fighting Vehicles, you may need to set aside quite a large chunk of time to resolve a game of that size...  lol

Bloody brilliant, mate.
 :-* :-*

It really looks the business, but the real highlight for me is the stonework of the inn: It looks spot on!
The tuftular titivation is superb too.

Thanks folks, your comments are kind and appreciated  :)

And they're also very useful!   :D

The remarks about the stonework prompted me to ponder how much I enjoyed building the inn  and how it looks at home in its landscape.  And yet for some reason I was just going to recycle my wattle and daub medieval buildings to create the village that could be used adjacent to it.  MADNESS!!!!!  The remarks about tilled fields and dry-stone pasture reminded me that this is pastoral hill-farming in The North, not sweeping fields of corn in the agarian south. What had I been thinking? MORE MADNESS!!!! All of which led to reconsideration of purpose.

The intention is that the board can be used as a whole or in parts, ranging from say 3x3 to its fullest size, with the tiles mixed about as much as they can be.  With this in mind, the proposed settlement might be a hill-farm on its lonesome, a facility that supports the inn, or a facility that supports the jetty, or any combination thereof.

Changes obviously affect storage, for which I want to limit myself to 2 tall tiles and 4 short (ie, 4 more boxes) and as such have revised the tiles to better reflect what is actually being portrayed. I think the new proposed additions are pretty self explanatory:

Regarding 'effalumps' (which I presume to be some 'sarf eest Lundan' slang for the ancient but mighty mammoth), they do appear in GoT and I had been contemplating one as the equivalent of a cavalry unit for my Wildlings.  My stumbling block is that they are ridden by giants and at the mo I'm not planning to incorporate any Jimbibblys.  ;) :)

That's an interesting thought and worth thinking more about.   :)

Spoiler alert for those of you who have not read the cycle of books to the end

It is not just Giants riding Mammoths that put in an appearance.
In A Dance With Dragons, the Golden Company land in the Stormlands with elephants... ;)

Interesting........  :)

I've now updated the terrain-making elements on my project log.  Essentially it's a highlights and less disjointed version of what's in this thread, plus paint schemes as I tend not to put those on LAF.

http://www.silentinvader.uk/index_w_gtn_index_terrain-making.html#two

I've also added the final images to the completed terrain page, which is very pic heavy.
