Pulp and Victorian Players in Switzerland ?
« on: 17 November 2008, 04:27:07 PM »
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for Pulp and Victorian players in Switzerland or close to the border. Also Dark Africa is interesting to me.
Cheers
Eric

Hello, and welcome to the LAF. Afraid I cannot help you, find any players however.

My grand father came from near Zürich though.

Get across to Villars sur Ollon quite a lot, but more of a Back of Beyond Johnny myself.....

Many years ago, spend some unhappy months in Bern. Unfortunately not anymore. sorry I cannot help you much.

But I wonder will you portray swiss inspired VSF units?
I remember in some museum visits in Zurich, that Swiss had a large selection of colourful uniforms!

Yes this is the Vatican Swiss Guard. This is only one example,
I reffered to the actual Swiss units, fought around 1848. every canton had various other uniforms, green with purple, blue or red with yellow and so on. Sorry I have no photo to show you what I mean. A small similar idea can be obtained by checking the Italian uniforms of the Garibaldi/Risorgimento era.

Argonor, I fancy you ask for the vatican swiss guard.
If yes, try to choose some from the foundry's landskenecht ranges [I mispelled this and I cannot correct it now], so,
try foundry's sea dogs collection or rennaissance ranges:
http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/collections/CUT/index2.asp

of course other ranges from other manufacturers might also have useable figures!

The Vatican Swiss Guard actually has a renaissance uniform, rumoured to be designed by Leonardo Da Vinci [or it was MichaelAngelo] himself. Also note that when undress they have a plain blue uniform. also when not in "morion" helmet they do wear a beret shaped cap.
try those foot pikemen in morions or berets.

So, you may use these renaissance figures with much success in VSF or even more modern settings!

See also these:

[as a side effect: some of foundry's seadogs can be converted to yeomen of the guard -british tower guards of VSF and today]

More, for the uniform purists: The Vatican Swiss Guard's uniform was little altered by the age and is now a little more modernised. The Renaissance Landsknechts [this time correctly written] wore a  much more elaborate uniform.

Hope I gave you a hint.
[imagine a rennaisance figure obtaining from an umbrella holder/bucket an uzi submachine gun!!!! not SF but pure fact]

I actually thought about the Victorian Era canton troops  :)

The idea about the beef-eaters is good, too, though  8)
