Using scrolls out of the game.
« on: 21 October 2015, 09:07:11 PM »
I have a couple of questions regarding the use of some scrolls out of the game. A good example would be an Animate Construct scroll. The rules for using scrolls to cast a spell with a target number normally mean that the minimum pass is automatically achieved. In this case that would always result in a small construct being animated.

Am I over reading this? Should I assume that the scroll gives me the minimum score required to animate what I have decided to construct? The reason I ask is because I have just assembled this rather fetching fellow.

He measures 50mm high and 40mm across the shoulders. The left arm is about the size of most members of my party.

When casting Animate Construct you choose the size of construct you want before casting and this sets the target roll.  So a scroll can always be used for a 100% chance to create a large construct (or any size you like).

The spell that works the way you're thinking is Summon Demon as that has a set target roll and your degree of success over that target sets the size of demon you get.  So a scroll will always summon the minimum result of an imp.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if the two spells operated in a similar way. Once I've got him painted up he could soon see action. He stands 50mm tall by 40mm wide. That left arm is about the same size as a human figure.
