Battlereport WWII
« on: October 24, 2015, 09:56:54 PM »
We have played a battle of the Second World War. Alexander played for the first time, but since we already have an Alexander, Alex and a Sander in the group, we could not have another Alexander and we have therefore renamed him "Claus" (it turned out he played with the allies, another name might have been more practical. ...).

Germany was played by Abe, Justin, Joost and Latok, Abe took the role of the field marshal.

The allies, the Americans under Claus and Alex and the English under Sander, Alexander and Erik, were under the command of the American General Claus.

The allies expected an attack by elite troops on the German left flank, to counter that threat Lord Lovat (Erik and Alexander, Alexander is my son of 8 which mainly rolled the dice for his troops) with his British commandos were positioned on the flank, his orders were to stop the expected German attack, in the Centre a defensive position would be taken, the line was organised in such a way that the other divisions in the Centre could support one another.

The Germans wanted to smash the allies with an "armoured fist" on the right side to break the allied line, Fallschirmjaeger and some SS units took the left flank, they hoped that these elite troops would be able to move around the flank to threaten the allies from the side.

The first turn was for the Germans, German tanks rolled forward in the direction of the Allied line, tanks and artillery opened fire but the casualties were light. Behind the forests in the Centre, the troops of Oberstleutnant Joost moved forward, the artillery was far behind and had to be pushed forward through the mud, because of this the Germans could not fire too many artillery pieces. Oberstürmbannführer Justin moved his Falmschirmjaeger and SS troops into the buildings on the left flank.

The allies were alarmed by the German movements, the Americans had more tanks facing them than they had expected, General Alex moved his troops in the direction of the troops of the American General Claus, this created more space and a good firing range on the flank causing the German tanks and armoured vehicles to travel a greater distance over open ground before they would reach the allies. The other American troops moved slowly into the village.
The British had also noticed the concentration of tanks on the other side, they took a large sip of a hot cup of tea and they concluded that an overhaul on their original plans would be necessary, or as the British General Lord Sander commented: "let those bloody yanks take care of that armour, we'll chase the Bosh from the woods".  They had little confidence that the Americans would be able to resist the German Armoured Fist and they decided to focus on the Germans in front of them. Lord Lovat (Erik) took another sip of his tea, nodded weighty and the Piper Millin set in an inspiring tune, "Mad Jack Churchill" ran forward, followed by the British commandos whom positioned themselves in the buildings opposite the SS and Falmschirmjaeger of Justin. Major General Lord Sander moved his tanks forward, followed by the British infantry. Artillery shot from all over the entire Allied line, a German Cannon was disabled but otherwise the losses were limited.

Generalfieldmarschall Abe moved his armoured fist further forwards, with a smile from ear to ear, he saw how the German armoured power moved forward, he saw the American troops of Alex running in a panic towards the Centre, leaving almost the entire flank open, he sniffed one more time and inhaled the sweet gunpowder and diesel fumes and enjoyed the moment, life could be beautiful. A deafening roar loomed up out of nowhere, from high in the air a JU87 Stuka swished down, he moved towards the American artillery, machine guns opened fire and the Gunners went into hiding, then he dropped his bombs, this happened, however, just a little too early and the bombs exploded in front of the artillery, the victims were once again limited but the Americans had gotten a scare. In the Centre the troops moved further forward once again.
A well-aimed shot of German artillery destroyed a British Cromwell tank, the grenade pierced the armour and from within as the British tank was ripped open, and a burning wreck was left behind.  On the German left flank a flame thrower team moved forward, they opened fire on the British commandos that were taking up positions in the building, to late the British realised what happened, screaming in agony many British soldiers died in a horrible way, the building around them caught flame and the British commandos retreated from the building where the fire spread quickly.

The German armoured fist had now approached far enough, the Americans decided to throw everything they had on the German tanks. Artillery opened fire on the German vehicles, a Hanomag Halftrack went up in flames, the artillery that it pulled was lost and the German troops inside climbed out from the burning wreck in shock. A M10 shot a focused shot and a German Panzer IV went up in flames, quickly followed by a Stug III. Generalfieldmarschall Abe looked around confused, his smile disappeared like snow from the Sun, he had little time to recover, a P51 Mustang and Supermarine Spitfire MK XII swooped down and opened fire on a second Hanomag that also went up in flames, in just a few minutes death and destruction was sown among the once mighty "armoured fist".
However, for the allies it had not been enough, the British opened fire and British artillery was able to pierce the armour of a Jagdpanther, smoking the steel monstrosity was left behind. A second artillery piece pierced the armour of a German Panther tank, the tracks were lost and it was left immobile behind.  On the other flank a British Churchill tank drove a German Puma back and British troops took over the Church. More British troops took one side of an abandoned factory, German troops held the other part of the factory. The British could not allow the Germans to get control over the entire factory because they could then threaten the flank of a possible British attack. The British had brought an old Matilda II tank, this opened fire on two German anti-tank guns, and both were destroyed by this efficient British tank.

The Germans had suffered a heavy blow but were still far from broken. The armoured Fist was virtually destroyed but German troops moved into the village, a firefight ensued. A German Messerschmitt opened fire on the British Spitfire, this nimble plane managed to dodge the rain of bullets. In the Centre the Germans moved further into the forest, there was only little artillery remaining but they shot with what they had but they were unable to damage the British tanks. The German Puma had been moved past the burning house and opened fire on the Matilda II, this tank was hit but was only remained "stunned". Flame throwers opened fire on the British again, this time into the British part of the factory, the British were prepared for this attack and without casualties they left the factory that also went up in flames.

The Americans moved further into the village and the artillery and tanks opened fire on the Germans that were left, a tiger was badly damaged and the German troops were treated to a deadly fire. Lord Sander again gave order shoot at the German Panther, with a huge bang it was permanently disabled. The buildings on the Allied left flank were almost all on fire, the danger of an attack from the flank had been contained, this gave the British the opportunity to concentrate on the Centre, to wipe it clean, grenade after grenade exploded in the Centre where the last German artillery was eliminated.

Generalfieldmarschall Abe wiped the mud, gunpowder and soot of his glasses, shocked he looked around toward the burning German vehicles, he saw the panic in the eyes of his dumbfounded troops and realized that the battle was lost, the Germans pulled back.
