NWF Anglo Indians - bugles or drums?
« on: 02 December 2015, 05:33:37 PM »
So, after collecting far too many of the Artizan NWF figures, I've finally got around to start painting them.

However, looking at the command packs they all seem to have buglers and drummers.

Why? Should regiments have both? I thought that rifle regiments have bugles and normal regiments have drums. Am I wrong? Although I am aware that by the time of the Second Boer War drummers could have bugles too.

Cheers

Tim

Tim, haven't a clue but sounds like a good excuse to buy twice as many figures as you originally planned!

Hi Simon

I really don't think I could buy twice as many. I'd end up being able to refight Kandahar at 1-1....

I hope more figures appear soon.....

From the mid 19th Century the British Army and probably those of British Tradition the infantry drummers carried bugles.  They still do.

Hi Dadla,

In which case, like the Perrys' Boer War British, it would have been better to have figures with both instruments.

I suspect if the unit is a Rifle regiment (or is a PIFer), I'll go for the Bugle, otherwise I'll just have the drummer in a unit.

It's just of those things that bugs me (and is a small thing that I spend time trying to figure out of all proportion to its importance..)

What I do for my British and Indian khaki clad infantry is that the line companies have bugles or if Highlanders pipers.  The Battalion HQ gets any drummers (or the figures get converted).  Gurkhas, Light infantry and Rifles have bugles.

My redcoats have a mix of drums and bugles, the Gurkhas, Rifles and Light Infantry have bugles.  The Scottish Highlanders have pipers and drummers.
