Simba Toy Castle
« on: December 07, 2015, 07:57:20 AM »
Just discovered the Simba Toy Castle and was wondering if anyone has it and what the material is like. Is it hard plastic or the bendy type. How well does it take paint??

I painted the main keep, with some small additions (scratchbuilt wooden gates, statues, torches, scratchbuilt flagpoles) and I feel it's very good for the price.

I have more pictures and info in this thread:

But here's what it looks like painted:

As can be seen here, the walking space on both sides of the roof has room for 4 figures on 20mm bases. Would be a good spot for a sniper/hochland longrifle.

And a few final pics with figures to give a feel of the size:

Forgot to add, it's rigid plastic. The backside of the wall sections isn't textured so you can either fill it (with cardboard and then covered in filler/spackle for instance) or, for the price, get a second set and cannibalize it for that.

To give an idea of size, here's one full set, with GW figures:

It's amazing what a few bits and bobs and some paint can do to transform a child's toy into a nice piece of gaming terrain.

Looks like a wonderful set to kit-bash into something truly excellent.  Nice.

I don't remember exactly as they are stashed away at the moment but I think I have 6 or 8 of them, with the idea to convert them into a big setup with city walls and everything. There is also a version that has some round towers in it and a different roof for the central building.

I just bought one based on the recommendations! These are the sort of cool toys my friends had but I never got (being a girl, boo), so I bought one a bit for nostalgia too!
