Scratchbuilt Hedges
« on: 18 December 2015, 08:04:32 AM »
Scratchbuilt hedges made from scouring pads, based on 12 x 2 inch metal bases.
Here are 4 samples. I made 12 feet of these.
Hedges fit in almost anywhere.
Enjoy!

I'm very interested in how you did the scouring pads. The normal ones are way too dense, straight and boxy. These look really torn up, perfect for some realistic hedges!

First off. I didn't use those green kitchen scouring pads. I used an industrial strength one. The round kind that fits on the end of a cleaning machine. Cleaning supplies places sell them.
First, I cut it into strips about an inch high.
Then I took 2 pair of pliers (one in each hand) and ripped the thing apart.

And that's what you see.

What else did you do to get those results?! I'm going to need step by step instructions!

That stuff looks amazing!
could You please post a link or picture with a pure un-changed scouring-pad of Yours? The ones I know just don't fit to the likes I see here.  :o
best wishes

I don't have it anymore as it's all used up. It was a pad I got from a friend, who works as a janitor in a school.
It looks very similar to this. See how dense it is.

Sorry, best I can do.

From my time supervising contract cleaning, used to strip wax/polish off vinyl flooring IIRC. Wonder what they do with the worn out ones?

I would guess that the worn out ones would be full of gunk, wax and chewing gum. To say nothing of whatever else people trod across floors. You really don't want to mess with that.
Best bet is a new one. Nice and clean and very cheap.
Just one made all 12 of these.

Proper ground-work that is.  :-* :-* :-* Absolutely top shelf.

Love the ragged, natural look you have achieved.

Really like how wide you based them, and how much foliage and ground cover you put on that extra space, very natural looking.  :)

Very nice.
Some of the best looking hedges I have seen.
Thanks for sharing.
And yes, would also like to see a tutorial.
