These show some excellent and enviable skill it there's something about them that is very subtly "off" and slightly uncomfortable to me. It might be the politics as Vermis says, but....

Diorama One: The policemen seem to be observing rather than responding to a horrific act. The odd little detail of the car's wheel hanging over the edge of the piece makes it a little bit eerie somehow.

Diorama Two: it's a little bit serial killer

Diorama Three: are those cops being attacked by the children or joining in with the games? Is it a riot or a zombie attack or a creepy game of ring o roses?

Diorama Four: looks like a protest is getting out of hand, but the swarming of the chopper is something very else, very World War Z

Maybe it's just me. Maybe that was the intention. Just a slight feeling of unease with each of them that I can't quite pinpoint.

Anyway, technically very impressive.  :)

I love these. Incredible modelling skill employed in a genuine work of art.

I think that's very much the point. Judging by the website

The jam jar represents containment, violent disturbances served up in manageable doses like news bulletins; complex situations reduced to mantle piece ornaments and souvenirs.

The intention seems to be to reduce a complex idea to a moment in time and a reduced space; saying something about the way that modern media over simplifies complicated subjects.

Fair enough. But note that actively avoiding being political is itself a political act.

He's got an exhibition, of his model village, on in London at the moment. This was part of Bansky's Dismal Land earlier this year.

Very pointed. And very well done. I believe I get what is being presented and do really like the modeling .
I should be painting right now.

I assume these are HO-scale figures?

On a related note, there were a few works at the Venice biannalie this year using scale architectural models that I thought would make fun game tables.
never trust a horse, they make a commitment to shoes that no animal should make.

I'll see what I can find, I didn't take that many (cus I'm an idiot)

EDIT!
These displays were various different scales.
isa genzken.

And these were in the Australian pavilion by fionna hall. The small objects in the bottom of the display were blocks of styrofoam packaging with pieces from military model kits/ skulls ect glued onto them to make them resemble bizarre temples.
They wre very simple, messy things, bit they got the point across really well (both artistically and in a gaming sense)

There were also some little HO scale models in the arsenale, but they were in a dark room with a film showing and as examples of scale building they were pretty poor.

(as a side note, there was ALOT of 3d printed work.It seems the cutting edge of contemporary art has really latched onto it (i have my ideas as to why, but thats too far off topic.) so look out for printers being marketed as art supplies soon ,because i see a price drop in the future.)
