Battle on the river

Hi,

A Quick question, in turn 3 of this scenario a character spawns, but as we are not native english speakers we are not sure if it will face a player edge or the sides.

Can somebody shed some light here?

At the beginning of the creature phase in turn three, the mage servant of the Lich Lord emerges from the wreck of the ship in the middle of the river, carrying his treasure. He will appear right next to the wreck, facing towards one of the board edges that is not lined by the riverbank (roll randomly to see which one).

He will face up or down stream, not toward land where the warbands start the scenario.
