Searching for a figure..........lesser demonic animal
« on: December 24, 2015, 11:44:20 AM »
I am searching for a figure to use as a lesser demon with an African Tribal faction for IHMN.
Described as a distorted version of an African animal rather than a staple Western Horns & Claw type, I have the Hyenas from Chainmail/WotC but am struggling to find anything that really looks the part.
Anyone know of Gnoll figures without weapons & armour? or some other kind of fantasy monster derived from an animal?

Given how little most fantasy werewolves resemble actual wolves, I reckon you could get away with painting up a werewolf as a demonic version of either a hyena or an African hunting dog. I think the Reaper Bones werewolf would do fine for this (and is cheap!). The "camouflage" scheme of a hunting dog is so distinctive that you could make it look suitably African very easily.

Also, the Bones werewolf has very big ears, which are the other distinctive feature of an African hunting dog.

Does anybody make large baboons? I'm sure I've seen some recently - Obelisk miniatures maybe?  ???

Dark Fable Miniatures have some hybrid creatures, that might suit?

Reaper's Moor Hound has a bit of lion look about it

& I've always though the Foundry witchdoctor on all four would make a decent horror

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

Great ideas there guys, thank you.  I think the Moor Hound with a Hyena or Hunting Dog colouring would be spot on.

Black Tree Design has one solitary lion-man under its Monsters category. I can't quite tell what he's holding in his hands, though.

Eureka also has a lion-man in the Chaos Egyptians category.

I don't know if they're "giant" "large" (I don't know why I read you as saying "giant", sorry about that), but Armorcast has the old Lance & Laser baboons of greater-than-animal intelligence.

I like those Baboons, a band of those would make for an interesting Darkest Africa type encounter.

Isn't there a tradition of 'were-leopards' in parts of Africa? Some of Rhoderic's cat-people might be appropriate. IIRC Reaper have a few too.

Bits and pieces...

I like that weretiger.
Reaper bones are making a bunch of African animal themed humanoids. Unfortunately they won't be ready any time soon.
