Scratch Built Wizard Tower
« on: December 28, 2015, 01:02:55 AM »
Hi all...well, the Christmas craze is complete and I can now show this 'lil deal that I built for my niece and nephew.
Standard foam core, cardboard tubes, a peanut can with 3 layers of foam core wrapped and such with a few flicker bulb battery power votive candles...

This was a fun and fast build...let me know what you think...
Cheers,
Carl

Thumbs up!

Really nice looks Tower. Mabe some ranks of Ivy could be a nice add to break up a littlebit the pure greys.

I like the fact it comes apart like that. Lots of ideas to store for later.

Agree with the ivy/weathering comments, but man, that looks great! Love the pattern on the rooftop lookout.

Heyguys,
Thanx for the words of encouragement.
I decided to go ahead and put some vines up to break up the greytones...just something simple as I had to give it away to my niece and nephew the next day so here it is...quick ugly shots just before we left...

I had run out of flox so it was just puff paint and a little different color acrylic green to dull it down a bit but be vibrant enough to break up the grey.
Thanx y'all...
Cheers,
Carl

How do you wrap foamcore around a tight curve like that without it splitting and creasing?
History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

hey Thank you Von Lucky!!...

Connectamabob,.....First thing i do when i get my big sheet of foamcore is strip the paper off of BOTH sides...that leaves nothing to wrinkle...then just measure and get ready with the glue of your choice...i use elmer's fast dry i find in the craft section of wal-mart(or any craft store)...and some rubber bands ...then glue up the tube you are using and s l o w l y wrap the foamcore...and yes...it can get messy with slipping and moving around, but in the end it's worth all the possible hassles...once you get it wrapped, rubber band it for a few hours(i let it go all night)...and voila...it's ready to be carved.
