Well then,
Yesterday, a buddy of mine showed me the new Wings of War - Dawn of WW2 game, and who would have guessed it, I´m hooked.
For a refreshing break, Robert decided to play the dastardly Huns, while I will be the RAF. Jolly spiffing, old chap. Since those little cards are rather nicely done, but a little flimsy and easily flopped around, we decided to go with little lead toys.
I had bought a pair of Spits´n´Schmitts each in 2007 from Magister Militum, and we´ve decided to order some more in the next week (Hurricanes and more Spits plus two Ju-88s as objectives for me, Messerschmitts and Focke-Wulfs [not BoB, but nice little planes!] plus a pair of Stukas for Rob). Nice little models at 1/200th scale, if a bit basic in detailing; but what is there is good. I´ve painted my Spits tonight and wanted to show them off. If I find my Me-109s in time, I hope to pilfer Rob enough to paint them up as well. We´ll probably not play with more than two planes at a time, but maybe we can get some other folks in and have a big squadron bash.
Not 100% happy with the final result. First, the painted insignia could have been done cleaner. Will work on that for the next planes. Next, I foolishly used leftover silver wire for the bases. Unfortunately, this had to be straightened out, and didn´t straighten out as straight as I would have liked. No dire straights, but... ah shucks, sorry for the last pun.

I´ll get brass tube for the next planes.
The bases are 1mm plasticard with cutouts from a County Kent aerial photography obtained via Google Earth.

For the scheme, I went with "Squadron Biggles" as portrayed in the Bergèse comic books (for codes and the like). Not much leeway with the camo pattern.
Now I have to decide what to do for a playing surface. I´ve got a good copy shop nearby which does good printouts at a very reasonable price, so I may go for that. I thought about doing a coastline map so that Rob´s Stukas can try to bomb some Radar posts once they arrive.
