list of grenadier CoC range?
« on: 01 December 2008, 12:52:37 PM »
I just recently purchased a big sack of old Grenadier CoC models (both monsters and adventurers) on ebay, and am now trying to get them complete, but does anyone still have a list of the whole range (best with pics)? Stuff of legends only gives the blister numbers/names but no content of pictures...

Thanks Aragnor, but that was also my starting point, do you also happen to a list or pictures of what is in the blisters?

Does not quite seem so. Been googling around a bit, and hoped that Mirliton still had the lists, but alas...

Try copying the list and post it on various fora - maybe you'll get some responses/pictures?

Will try, but if the LAF cannot resolve this I do not have much hope  ;)
Sorry for misspelling your name by the way :)

Some Grenadier's CoC models were later renamed to "Nightmares" after losing the licence. Solegends has a few pictures of that line, and I managed to grab two catalogue scans from a forum whose name I've already forgot. These have some pics of models not available on Solegends.

Unfortunately the catalogue codes were rearranged, maybe the blister contents too. There are packs which weren't in CoC and probably some which were but didn't return. I'm not sure whether this is ultimately helpful or even more confusing. Good luck in your quest, nevertheless.

Edit: Please take a look *here*.

Is this not the same range now carried by EM4?
(Doug certainly carries other ex-Grenadier stuff, like the Copplestone barbarian and early Future Wars ranges).
If so, you can see most of the range here... http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Dunwich_Detectives.html

If not, I apologise  ;)

Thanks guys, that was exactly what i was looking for (and it also tells me that I have to look out for some missing minis :-). By the way, the guy I got the minis from claims that he is the son of they founder of Grenadier models and that these are the original back-up masters he found in his fathers garage. This might be true or not, but they look pretty crisp!

Lucky git...if you ever happen to come across some duplicates, I'm happy to relieve you of them.  ;)

No. EM does have some Grenadier moulds, but not the CoC line. Their detectives are from Metal Magic. I've seen them in blisters but didn't want to buy any at inflated OOP MIB prices. Nemo apparently bought a bunch of Grenadier moulds, which then went to Mirliton after Nemo's bankruptcy.

Most likely Mirliton owns the Grenadier CoC moulds among others today. There have been rumours about a re-release for some five years now but no other developments. I don't think they have a licence for the Lovecraftian names so either they'd have to acquire one or alternatively sell them as generic "nightmares" like Grenadier did in the 90s.

As you can see, it's a complicated story. I'd like to ask a few key people about this all. Meanwhile I just try to find a pile of good minis and possibly even play some games with them.

(Edited out some misinformation. Sorry)

I used to have sooooo many of those figs when I was a young thing...great figs for sure! I seem to recall a boxed set of 'Chill' minis that they (Grenadier) did as well...werewolf, zombie, weird bird-alligator thing...about 8 or so...could be worth a hunt!  ;)

The Em4 Chtulhu range is the old german Metal Magic range.
Nemo had the Grenadier range which was sold all to Mirliton. For years I'm trying to convince Stefano from Mirlton to release the Chtulhu/Nightmares list, with all the Pulp & alt-WW2 being released allover, but he wont listen to me. If everyone interested on this forum would write him he might actually do.

Back up masters. Wow!  :)

How big/small are the human characters anyway? true 25mm?

Ah carp, you are absolutely correct. I managed to mix up the names. Teaches me not to post before getting my coffee.

Now that would be great. How about compiling a list of interested buyers or something - sort of an online petition, just not as stupid as most of those?

When I saw this topic, I thought that I must be able to help out considering that I was the Managing Director of Grenadier UK and now run em4miniatures. However, while I was scratching round trying to find answers, others have come up with the goods - not only quicker but with better memories. For example, I'd totally forgotten that we rebranded the Cthulhu range as Nightmares.

I'd be very interested to know the name of the person who found the masters in his father's garage. Not for any commercial reason but because I've lost touch with the US Grenadier guys and I'd be interested to know how they're getting on and what they are doing.

His ebay name is "tridcloudwalker" if you want to contact him, and he signed his email with Aaron A. Chernak if that helps. Still not sure if the whole story about the back-up masters was help selling the stuff, but who does not want to believe a good story... ;)

The name checks out. Andy Chernak was one of the original founders in the US and he had a son called Aaron - I remember meeting him in about 1991 or 92 - so you may very well have the masters. If you have, they will be tin rather than white metal. If you hold one to your ear and bend a part of it slightly, the metal should make a cracking noise which will more or less confirm it as a master. Don't break it !
